After a couple levels of very slow action, things are really heating up in the Main Event.

Jiachen Gong has just won a huge pot to double through Benoit Jean. On a board reading Jack of Clubs 6 of Spades 8 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 5 of Spades Jiachen went all-in on the river, and after tanking for at least 3 minutes, Benoit made the call – only to muck his hand when he saw Jiachen’s 10 of Spades 6 of Diamonds for trip 6s. This sent Benoit down to around 450K – by far his lowest point in a long time in this tournament.

On the other table, Jessie Wheatley has made it red-hot.

First she took out Dean Murphy who had been in a very strong position all day until right at the end. After losing about 400K to be left with about 900K, he found himself in a hand with Jessie who held trips and ended up taking Dean’s whole stack. Almost immediately after that, she stacked Michael Korovine as well, who had successfully laddered up a couple of pay jumps but never seemed to get anything going.

Jessie is now playing more than 2.5M, Jiachen has grown his stack to 1.2M, and while writing this, 2 other players have been eliminated bringing us to the final table!

The players in the Main Event have just taken their second break of the day and we now have full counts for the entire remaining field.

So far, although there has been quite a bit of action, no one player has asserted their dominance on this event and it’s literally anyone’s tournament from this point forward.

    Molson doubles through Borduas

Will Molson opened the action with a raise to 65K and Jessie Wheatley called, only to be answered by a shove from Eric Borduas who had more than 1.4M in chips at the time, but who seemed to be smarting from some losses in small pots recently. Action folded back to Will who obviously had a decision to make, and went in the tank to make it. Finally Jessie called time, Will instantly made the call and Jessie folded.

Eric: King of Clubs King of Spades
Will: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

The flop didn’t have a ton for Will: Ace of Spades 7 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds, but when the turn 3 of Diamonds everyone seemed to have a feeling about what was coming next, and sure enough it was the 4 of Diamonds – Will had made his flush.

Though his 16th place finish in the TonyBet Winter Festival Main Event isn’t at the top of his list of successes, it’s at least on the list!

Marco Sousa had his stack reduced to one of the smallest in the tournament through the early action today and on the first hand back after the redraw he was eliminated in 18th place.

Several minutes later, Danny Kalpakis (who you may remember from the documentary “Grinders” a couple of years ago) crippled Ryan McGarry with a full double as his King of Diamonds King of Spades held against Ryan’s 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades on a 3 of Diamonds 2 of Spades Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts 2 of Hearts board. The following hand saw Ryan hit the rail in 17th place.

    Farber out 19th

Ron Farber had spent much of the day among the short stacks in the tournament, and even a recent double up didn’t change matters that much for him. He ended up all in on a Jack-high flop with two clubs holding King Jack (no club) and was called – after much hesitation, by Christopher Hudson with 5 of Clubs 3 of Clubs for middle pair and the club draw – which he hit, to eliminate Farber in 19th.

Tournament staff is now performing a full tournament redraw – we’ll have the new seating arrangements soon.

    19th place: Ron Farber, $4,500.00
