The players have left on their third break of the afternoon and roughly a third of the starting field remains in the running.

Although the chip average only provides about 16 big blinds, the money bubble is coming into sight so play will likely tighten up over the course of the next few levels.

The blind pressure is creeping up on the short stacks, but several players have little to worry about for the time being thanks to their double-average stacks. Here are the current top three:

    First NameLast NameChip Count
    Real Cantin179,900
    PatricPerron165,000
    Laurie LeeLabrash145,000

Middle pair against two overs: a (non-)standard race

The chips are flying as we near the end of level 13 in the Deepstack Turbo. The 15-minute blind levels are forcing players to take their chances sooner rather than later.

A hand that just played out offers an interesting illustration. When Arnie Maloney made a continuation bet in a heads-up pot on a flop of 2 of Clubs 7 of Spades 4 of Diamonds, he must have felt pretty confident. Not a lot of hands that could call a pre-flop raise connect with that kind of board so Maloney figured it would be easy enough to take down. His opponent, David Caverly, had other ideas and he put in a raise to 32,000, enough to put Maloney’s tournament life at risk. After a couple of minutes in the tank, Maloney called it off and hands were tabled. Caverly showed 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs and Maloney tabled Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts. Caverly had a healthy lead in the race between middle pair and two over cards, but there were still two cards to come. The turn, 4 of Spades, lengthened Caverly’s lead, but the river, the Queen of Diamonds, was enough to change all that, keeping Maloney in the tournament with a stack that is now well above the chip average.

Thanks to the strong turnout for this event, the prize pool guarantee of $5,000.00 was met before the end of the second level and easily surpassed by the time late registration had ended.

The 47 players left in contention are each fighting for a piece of the $7,944.00 prize pool, but all eyes are on the $2,514.00 first place prize; someone will be leaving Playground today with more than 25 times their buy-in!

As we return from the second break in the action, nearly half of the original starting field is gone from the Deepstack Turbo. The players realize that this event is a sprint to the finish, and everyone is trying their best to run up their stacks and get ahead of the blinds. This dynamic is putting lots of chips up for grabs in virtually every pot.

Three players have already built 6-figure stacks, but they can’t afford to rest on their laurels with the 15-minute levels driving the action.

Here are the current chip leaders:

The late registration period has just ended for the Deepstack Turbo with 91 entries in the running. The big turnout has built a prize pool of $7,944.00, easily exceeding the $5,000.00 guarantee.

The players in the field clearly embraced the turbo format, as everyone did their best to jump out to an early lead. This process claimed a number of tournament lives, eliminating 15 players before the first break.

Several players have managed to build significant stacks, but everything is still up for grabs at this stage in the tournament. Here are the current chip leaders:

The strong turnout for the March Power Weekend continues with 88 entries so far in the Deepstack Turbo. The prize pool has easily surpassed the $5,000.00 guarantee, and players continue to arrive at a steady pace. With a few minutes left to go in the late registration period, we expect several more players to join the field.
