Playground 200 Day 1D is over

    2019/02/23 - 3:32 by

With 207 entries, including 35 re-entries, the 5,175,000 chips in play tonight have allowed no less than 52 players to qualify for Day 2. With the average at 99,519, it was interesting to see if any one would best chip leader Mohammadamin Khalilian, who bagged 343,500 chips last night.

Tonight’s top stack, weighing in at 230,500 is in Vladislav Gulii’s bag. This performance will rank him in 6th place overall on Day 2. Right behind him is Jonathan Brazeau who managed a respectable 215,000 and Yves Plante who scooped up 201,500. The three gentlemen are the only ones to have bagged more than 200K chips tonight.

Out of the 566 total entries from all Day 1’s combined, 128 players have been qualified. Some players have more than one bag, which means that only their biggest stack will make it to the felts tomorrow.

It has been a grueling 14 levels of fast paced action today. With happy hearts but exhausted bodies the qualifiers were anxious to bag the chips and get some much needed rest before Day 2 gets underway tomorrow at 1:00pm.

You can find the updated Combined Day 1 results here.

As the tournament clock approaches it’s final minutes for today, the action is going strong on all the tables.

60 players remain of the original 207 entries. All in cards are seen flying left and right, and the players are showing no signs of slowing down. The antics on table #27 have everyone in stitches and made for some interesting photos. Tension was a little higher on other tables as the players all make a last ditch effort to add chips to their stacks before the bags come out.

Here are a few photos from levels 13 and 14.

We went to the felts during the break between levels 11 and 12 to see how the chips stacked up. Jonathan Brazeau is in the lead with 207,600 chips. Hot on his tail are Alexandre Ruest, with 174,700 and Marc Petit, with 165,700.

The 77 players remaining in the tournament are resuming play and we expect things to heat up considerably in the last 3 levels before the bags come out.

As the players head into the final minutes of level 11 before the break, the action is fast, strong and unforgiving.

The action flared up on table #35 between Vera G. and Abdulkadir Abdurazak Mohammed. We missed the initial action but the red all-in cards were out and Vera was opening up her pocket aces Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds. Abdulkadir knew he was in trouble, holding pocket eights 8 of Spades 8 of Diamonds.

As the board was gradually revealed: 5 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs, Vera’s smile started to fade. All eyes were riveted on the dealer as he brought the Queen of Spades on the turn. Relief flooded Vera’s face when the 2 of Diamonds arrived on the river. Considering that a few levels ago Vera was down to barely 30K, he new 140K stack was pushed up proudly against the rail.

    Marc Petit in the lead

The players are coming back from their second break and Marc Petit has jumped ahead of the competition and is now sitting behind more than 150,000 chips. With the average at 41K he is definitely in a nice position.

For now, the only other player above the 100K mark is Jeffrey Joseph Gerald Joubert. Joubert, who is having a great run today, was also on the previous leaderboard from the first break.

The number of players is going down steadily as we approach the 2nd break. The 134 players are keeping things interesting and we can’t wait to see who’s got the chips!
