The race is tight as we now have five players over 100k, and one who is just below.  There are many others though nursing decent stacks, so there is sure to be a lot of poker action as the day plays on.

In the driver’s seat right now is Vincent Plouffe, with a commanding 124,000.He is followed closely by Mark Fitzpterick (113,000) who has a record of deep runs here at Playground, as well as Steve Daunais (also 113,000).

Recent bustouts include: Maurice Simard, Vera G., Pat St-onge, Nabil Nahoul, Andre Bilodeau and Nicolas Miron.

Table 31 has a lot of chips on the table. In middle position, Fabrizio Pugliese limped in.  Dimitri Tchakorov, who plays here often along with his wife and his daughter, shoved his stack. It folded to Christopher Gaudreault in the sb who also moved his stack forward and announced “all in”.  Fabrizio made the call.

Dimitri: Ace of Diamonds 7 of Spades
Christopher: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Clubs
Fabrizio: Queen of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

The board ran out Queen of Clubs 3 of Spades King of Diamonds 4 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds, and, Fabrizio had hit top pair on the flop and knocked out both Christopher and Dimitri.  Due to stack sizes, the math had made sense for Fabrizio to make the call pre-flop, and, although he technically had the worst hand, he had the most luck.

Registration is now closed, we have a total of 113 entries, which has helped to inflate the total prize pool well beyond the guarantee for a total of $21,922. Fifteen players will be getting paid, a min-cash is $350, and, a whopping $5,252 is up top for the 1st place finisher!.

Walking around the floor, we saw five stacks that were more than the double the average, and, two players who have now surpassed the 100K mark. Our current chip leader is Joel Bedard (111,500), followed closely by Jonathan Theriault (104,500).

All the others in the room are working to make their way to the top, so we will update the chipcounts and the next break.

As we arrived at table 30, we saw Ace of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 3 of Spades on the board. Steve Daunais in the hijack seat moved a bet forward, the bet was easily called by local reg Eddie Daldalian who was on the button.  Diana Shamshoun, who was in the bb, looked up and said “alright, let’s do it!” as she moved her stack forward and the dealer put out the “all in card” in front of her stack.  We then saw both Steve and Eddie also move their stacks forward and we had a 3-way all in.

Steve: 5 of Spades 2 of Spades
Ediie: Ace of Clubs 2 of Diamonds
Diana: 7 of Clubs2 of Spades

The players report that it was a limped pot pre-flop, and, although Eddie wasn’t happy to see Diana with her 7 of Clubs 2 of Spades, when he asked why she was playing her hand, she responded by pointing out that she was in the bb and nobody raised.

    Chop it up!

The tournament is off to a great start!

There are now 94 players in Event #5, $200 + $20 Deepstack freezeout.  The rain is coming down but the roads have been salted and the traffic is light out there, so if you were thinking about what to do today, late registration remains open until 1:15 PM.  Although this event features a guaranteed prize of $15,000, the tournament is already well beyond that so there will be some good money to made on today’s final table.

Starting now in the Tournament Hall at Playground is Event #5 in the February 2019 Playground Power Weekend. This is a $200 + $20 Deepstack tournament with a very solid $15,000 guaranteed prize pool.

This is a freezeout tournament, meaning that no re-entry or rebuys are permitted. This is perhaps the “purest” form of tournament poker and the excitement and anticipation begins from the first hand all the way to the final hand as every move, every bet, and every bluff counts! Players are starting with 30,000 tournament chips and play will continue through 20 minute levels throughout the day until a champion is crowned later this evening.

Registration is open now and will remain open until the beginning of level 7 – which is to say that players can start the tournament any time between now and 1:15pm this afternoon.

Good luck to all – cards are in the air!
