Manfred Gunther is champion of Event #6 Short Deck

    2019/02/25 - 4:22 by

The heads up match was between chip leader Manfred Gunther and Patrick St-Onge. Manfred has been running extremely well and was on fire tonight. He’s been consistently among the chip leaders and has managed to stay pretty much ahead of every player on the final table. Patrick has had a roller coaster ride in this tournament but is a player not to be taken lightly on any given day.

The whole confrontation lasted only a few hands. By doubling up in the first hand, Patrick was now in a better position to do some damage. On the last hand, both players found themselves holding great hands.

Manfred: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs
Patrick: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds

Tabling his hand, Patrick stood up and said: “wow, I’m really behind now”. The flop came out and was nothing to write home about: 10 of Spades 8 of Spades 8 of Clubs . Obviously the idea of a split pot entered everyone’s mind but it wasn’t until the turn came out 10 of Diamonds that Patrick sat back down, fully expecting the split pot.

A collective “wow” was expressed by everyone witnessing the hand when one of the few cards that could change everything came out Ace of Clubs. Now Manfred had 2 pairs and out kicked Patrick by a nose.

Both men shook hands with huge smiles, in tune with the mood of the whole tournament tonight.

After only a few hands passed, Marco Dinardo found himself the lucky owner of bullets. He wasted no time shoving all in and was rewarded by a single call by Manfred Gunther.

Marco proudly flopped both his aces on the felt for all to see: Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts . Unaffected by the massive hand, Manfred calmly opened his hand Queen of Spades Jack of Diamonds saying: “I can’t lose, this is my favorite hand”.

Manfred paired the board on the flop Jack of Clubs 8 of Spades 10 of Clubs and had an inside straight draw. With the win more than 66% in his favor, Marco felt pretty good and wasn’t too nervous. A King of Diamonds came on the turn, Manfred’s odds of winning shrunk even more, he absolutely needed a nine. Manfred, who has been running like a God all day, stayed true to form and received his 9 of Clubs on the river to send Marco and his bullets home in 3rd place.

    3rd place: Marco Dinardo, $1,110

Cedrik Harnois out in 4th place

It didn’t take long after the ICM deal was made for all 4 players to open up the engines and fire all in left and right.

A few minutes into level 16, short stack Cedrik Harnois peeked at his cards and when he saw Ace of Spades 9 of Clubs he needed no more encouragement to push all in for all his fortune, which amounted to not much more than the big blind. All the players called, thus forming a pot that was very tempting to Cedric.

While the dealer was making the main pot, Manfred fired 10K dark, Patrick St-Onge called dark, followed by Marco Dinardo who waited for the 9 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 10 of Clubs flop to come out before calling.

The turn revealed an 8 of Hearts and that’s when Manfred shoved all in. Both remaining players hesitated a bit but folded. Manfred turned over his hand: Jack of Spades Queen of Diamonds for a straight. Cedric opened Ace of Spades 9 of Clubs and asked the dealer for a nine or an eight with a smile, for a boat. But the 6 of Clubs on the river did absolutely nothing to help him and that was the end of the line for him.

    4th place: Cedric Harnois, $735

    ICM deal is made

    2019/02/25 - 3:32 by

A few hands after the departure of Garcia in 5th place, the four remaining players did a quick count and asked the tournament director to stop the clock to discuss a deal.

The whole tournament up to this point has been peppered with bouts of laughter, antics and friendly jabs. It’s obvious that the players are in this to win, but to also have a good time doing it. This holds true on the final table as well. It took about 3 seconds for them to agree to an ICM chop. 2% ($110) of the prize pool has been laid aside for the winner and the play will resume shortly.

Juan Federico Garcia was sent to the rail by Patrick St-Onge.

Patrick: 10 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds
Juan: 8 of Clubs 9 of Spades

The only thing Juan liked about the board was the flop window. The rest of the community cards were definitely not his friends.

Board: 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts 8 of Hearts King of Hearts Ace of Hearts

Patrick’s St-Onge’s trip tens were enough to bag the win on this hand and spell the end for Juan Federico Garcia.

5th place: Juan Federico Garcia, $410

6th place goes to Anthony Dadamo

    2019/02/25 - 1:46 by

A few hands after the previous elimination, Anthony Dadamo was sent to the rail in 6th position, with $290 to add to his winnings.
