Eric Afriat finishes atop Day 1B

2015/05/02 - 22:57 by Playground Poker

After all was said and done in Day 1B of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, 102 players bagged chips onto Day 2. Sitting atop the leaderboard for the day is Eric Afriat, who bagged 212,200 chips for the day. His stack trails the leaders of Day 1A, and so it is still Mike Leah (265,300 in chips) who is in charge overall heading into Day 2.

Jason Duval also accumulated a healthy stack, as he will be bringing 188,400 back to the tables tomorrow. Not far behind are Kevin Singh (187,700), Kevin Lee Sharp (159,000), Nicholas Naccarato (141,900), Louis Boutin (135,300), Darryll Fish (130,200), Marvin Rettenmaier (134,700), Vlad Faubert (126,800) and Laurence Grondin (126,400).

We will be publishing the full list of player-reported chip counts, as well as the seating assignments for Day 2, in a matter of moments.

Just as a reminder, Day 2 is scheduled for 12pm tomorrow, May 3rd.

    ‘3 Lives’ Event kicks off!

    2015/05/02 - 20:04 by Playground Poker

    ‘3 Lives’ Event kicks off!

Event 11 – $200 + $20 ‘3 Lives’ No Limit Hold’em – has just begun, and as this follows a ‘3 Lives’ formula, players will be given 3 tokens at the start of the tournament, each worth $T 10,000. They can then chose how many of them they want to start with, and will have up to the first break to use them as they see fit. At any point in between hands, they can exchange them for chips, that is until the first break arrives, where the remaining tokens are forced into play.

Late registration will remain open through until the end of the first break, or roughly 9:35pm.

    See you on the felts!

    Dinner break promotions with partypoker.net

    2015/05/02 - 19:31 by Playground Poker

    Dinner break promotions with partypoker.net

While players of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship were on dinner break, partypoker.net had an exciting surprise organized in honour of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao match tonight, as they brought some oversized boxing gloves and matched up some of the players from the field against each other! We saw Maximilian Droeger, Marvin Rettenmaier, Maxime Swennen and Gary Josefczyk take turns against each other. Once the players were done battling it out, some of the Royal Flush girls couldn’t help themselves but jump in and throw some swings at each other as well!

At the end of the dinner break, partypoker.net also announced the current chip leader of Day 1B, and it was Dave Graham and his 127,000 in chips who claimed this title, earning himself a pair of partypoker.net Monster DNA headphones! Congratulations!

    Mclaughlin springs up the leaderboard

    Marc Etienne Mclaughlin

We just witnessed a hand that put Marc Etienne Mclaughlin amongst the chipleaders.

It all started with a raise from Diana Shamshoum to 2,200 from under the gun. Marc Etienne made the call from the cutoff, and Quyen Dao then 3bet to 9,000 from the small blind. Diana got out of the way, and Marc Etienne put in a 4bet to 18,500. Quyen threw in some calling chips, and they were heads-up to the flop.

Flop: 3 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds

Quyen, first to act, check-called Marc Etienne’s bet of 15,500.

    Turn: 6 of Hearts

Quyen checked, and this time Marc Etienne wagered the rest of his chips, a total of 53,500. Quyen tanked for a few minutes, murmuring to himself, before finally committing the chips.

Marc Etienne: Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds

Quyen: Jack of Hearts Jack of Diamonds

Quyen had but two outs that could save him, but the river Ace of Spades only improved Marc Etienne’s hand, who collected a pot worth almost 180,000!
