Once play fell heads-up between Gerald Macleod and Ko Maddock, the two players opted to make a deal. The tournament rules require at least 5% of the prize pool to be left up top for the eventual winner, so the two decided to leave $5,000 extra for the winner, and take $34,133 each.
It only took a level of play before Gerald vanquished over his heads-up opponent Ko, and he earned a cool $39,133 cash prize for his win, as well as a Playground Poker Spring Classic bracelet!
On the last hand of play, Ko limped from the small blind for 400,000 total, and then called the raise to 1,400,000 by Gerald. On a flop showing , Gerald rapped the table first to act, leaving the door open for Ko to make his move. He went all-in, and Gerald was put to a decision. After tanking for a few moments, he announced the call, and realized he was in a great spot. Tabling , Gerald had a few outs to fade, as Ko tabled . The turn and river ( ) actually improved Gerald’s hand, and with that pot, he became the champion of Event 3!
