The Wild $150 Champion: Rick Shamshoum!

2015/04/24 - 3:12 by Playground Poker

The Wild $150 Champion: Rick Shamshoum!

We have just crowned our first bracelet winner of this year’s edition of the Playground Poker Spring Classic, as Rick Shamshoum defeated heads-up opponent Philippe Lauzon to take home the bracelet, and the $28,780 prize that came along with it!

Heads-up play was fairly uni-directional, as Rick gave up very few pots, and won far more of them. In the last hand of play, Rick opened to 700,000, and quickly called when Philippe moved in for 5,175,000. He tabled Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds, and was in great shape versus the King of Diamonds Queen of Spades of Philippe. The board ran in favour of Rick, awarding him the pot and the victory!

Congratulations Rick!

Rick Shamshoum won a big pot in the first hand of heads-up, as he called a preflop raise of 650,000, then check-called 725,000 on a flop of 4 of Diamonds 10 of Spades Queen of Spades. They both checked the 2 of Clubs turn, and when the river brought the King of Hearts, Rick once again checked, only to be faced with a bet of 1,775,000. After going in the tank for a few minutes, he announced the (hero) call, and tabled 10 of Hearts 7 of Hearts to best the 6 of Spades 7 of Spades of Philippe.

We’ve just reached heads-up play in The Wild $150, as Isham Yamani was eliminated in 3rd place. With only 3,600,000 to his name, Isham open-shoved from the small blind, and was quickly called by Philippe Lauzon.

Isham: Queen of Hearts Jack of Spades

Philippe: Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts

They both paired the Jack of Hearts Ace of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds King of Clubs board, however Philippe held the stronger pair to eliminate Isham.

    Michailidis places 4th

We just witnessed a cooler amongst the final four players of The Wild $150, as Rick Shamshoum opened from utg for 575,000, and snap called the all-in of Said Michailidis, which was worth almost 3,000,000.

Rick: Ace of Hearts King of Clubs

Said: King of Hearts King of Spades

The window card was just what Rick ordered, as he paired his ace on the Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 3 of Spades 4 of Spades 2 of Diamonds board to bring us down to three-handed action.

    4th place: Said Michailidis – $10,960

Isham Yamani opened from the button to 550,000, and went into the tank for a few minutes when Philippe Lauzon moved in from the small blind for a total of 1,950,000. He eventually made the call, but was in rough shape.

Isham: Jack of Spades 9 of Spades

Philippe: Queen of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds

The board ( 3 of Clubs 10 of Clubs 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts Ace of Hearts ) changed nothing, and Philippe doubled to just over 4 million, while Isham dropped to around 3.5 million.

    Chartrand exits in 5th place

Play seems to be accelerating somewhat as the small stacks have no room to maneuver without the dominant counts of Rick Shamshoum or Isham Yamani having something to say about it.

The latest victim was Stephane Chartrand. He got it in with Ace of Hearts 6 of Diamonds and was quickly called by Rick holding Ace of Spades Queen of Spades. The board ran out Jack of Clubs 4 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 5 of Spades King of Spades and Rick’s kicker held the hand.

    5th place: Stephane Chartrand, $8,010

    Sauve eliminated in 6th

The players were unable to reach a deal after the recent attempt, and when play continued it took just a few hands for Said Michailidis to raise all-in from the cutoff. He was quickly called by Pierre-Olivier Sauve from the button.

Said: King of Hearts Jack of Hearts
    Pierre-Olivier: 9 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds

The flop instantly put the hand almost out of reach for Pierre-Olivier: 7 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts – Said had flopped the nuts. The 10 of Spades was among the only cards that gave Pierre-Olivier some hope, but the 8 of Diamonds on the river was not quite enough, and Said stacked up Pierre-Olivier’s 1.7M in chips.

    6th place: Pierre-Olivier Sauve, $6,140

    Campeau’s queens run into kings

Said Michailidis opened the action to 375,000 from early position, to which Rick Shamshoum replied with a raise to 950,000. Benoit Campeau announced all-in from the big blind for around 3,600,000, and found a call only from Rick.

Benoit: Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs

Rick: King of Hearts King of Spades

The board stayed clean for Rick, who moved up to just shy of 10,000,000 with that hand, as Benoit was sent to the cashiers to collect his cash prize.

    7th place: Benoit Campeau – $4,270
