    Beaudoin out 8th

Christien Beaudoin has had a remarkable night. At one point fairly early on in the day he was reduced to a single 25K chip. But he kept on grinding and managed to ladder up quite successfully to 8th place.

He was finally eliminated in a hand in which he was all-in against both Isham Yamani and Philippe Lauzon. When we arrived at the table, Philippe was betting 200K into the side-pot between he and Isham, eliciting a fold from the other large stack. He then showed down Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades, which was good enough to beat Christien’s 8 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts and send him to the rail. For the record, the community cards in the hand were 3 of Diamonds Ace of Spades 6 of Hearts Jack of Spades King of Clubs.

    8th place: Christien Beaudoin, #3,110

Stephane S eliminated by Stephane C

There were 2 men named Stephane on the final table, and while Stephane Chartrand was in the big blind, Stephane Sevigny went all-in for approximately 900K. It folded around to the big blind and Chartrand instantly called, turning over Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs which was up against Sevigny’s Ace of Hearts King of Clubs.

It was a classic coin-flip situation, but the Queens held as the board ran out 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 3 of Diamonds and Stephane S was eliminated in 9th place.

    9th place: Stephane Sevigny, $2,310

    Levi Stevens out 10th

Levi Stevens has had a pretty rough day but nevertheless managed to make the final table of the tournament. One hand after open raising all-in from the button and having the action fold to him, he was faced with an all-in raise from Pierre-Olivier Sauve. After some thought, Levi called and the players showed down.

Pierre-Olivier: King of Spades King of Hearts
Levi: Ace of Clubs Jack of Clubs

As soon as the cards were turned over, Levi made it clear he wasn’t happy with his situation, and as the board ran out 3 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds 3 of Spades Jack of Diamonds his instincts were proven correct.

    10th place: Levi Stevens, $1,720

We’ve reached the final in the opening event of the Playground Poker Spring Classic!

There are a few interesting stories leading up to this final table. For starters, Christien Beaudoin is riding what has been jokingly referred to as a “fairytale story”, as he was crippled early in the night to just one chip (T25,000), and has managed to rebuild his stack to make his way to the final table. Although he is on the short end of the leaderboard, he’s proven he knows how to play short-stacked poker.

Levi Stevens is in a similar boat, as at some point before the money-bubble in Day 2 he was crippled nearly to elimination. He has seen his stack drop to below the 2BB mark today as well, but has chipped up to give him a little room to manoeuvre.

Isham Yamani is on his second life-time final table in Playground Poker Club’s “The Wild $150”, and has also placed 20th in another one.

Sammy Chao falls short of the final table

Said Michailidis opened to 250,000 form early position, and was faced with an all-in from Sammy Chao from the button. For only 265,000 more than what he already wagered, Said made the crying call and found himself behind.

Said: Ace of Hearts 8 of Hearts

Sammy: Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs

Said managed to improve on the King of Diamonds 4 of Spades 7 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds King of Hearts board just enough to bring this event down to one final table.

    11th place: Sammy Chao – $1,720

    Kathy Sawers places 12th

On the last hand before the break, Kathy Sawers saw around 75% of her stack get shipped to Rick Shamshoum, as she triple-barrelled her open-ended straight draw (which never came), and was called down by the two-pairs of Rick.

She was then eliminated on the first hand back from break, but unfortunately we missed the action.

    Sakelliou finishes in 13th place

Petros Sakelliou was running low on options as his stack fell below the 500,000 mark, but he woke up with a shoving hand and announced his all-in from middle position. It folded around to Rick Shamshoum in the big blind, who made the call for 5BB more.

Petros: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs

Rick: Ace of Hearts 5 of Clubs

Rick connected on the Ace of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds King of Spades 8 of Spades 6 of Hearts board to eliminate Petros in 13th.

Charles-Eric Benoit sent packing in 14th

Charles-Eric Benoit has seen his stack fluctuate quite a bit in this Day 3 of The Wild $150, however he was crippled in a recent hand, and although he managed to rebuild himself a little, he was eventually eliminated as his Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds couldn’t overcome the Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs of Said Michailidis.
