Guerbilsky falls short of the final table

Marc Guerbilsky, sitting on the short end of the leaderboard, opted to make a move in a unopened pot from late position. He found a call from Christopher McClung in the big blind though, and needed some help:

Marc: Queen of Hearts 6 of Clubs

Christopher: Ace of Spades 7 of Hearts

With no help on the 10 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 4 of Hearts 4 of Clubs 7 of Spades board, Marc was sent home in 11th, collecting $2,700 for his run.

With this elimination, the tournament has reached it’s final table of ten players!

James Slotegraaf was short stacked when he moved in from utg, and he was followed by all-ins from Nick Petsas and Joseph Abou Khalil.

James: Jack of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Nick: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Hearts

Joseph: Ace of Hearts King of Hearts

Board: 7 of Spades Queen of Spades 10 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts

Joseph held the biggest stack of the three, and after the hand was over, he was only left with 200,000, while James hit the rail in 14th, good fpr $2,200.

On the other table, we saw Matthew Bellsmith move in from the button for around 400,000, and get called by Glen Hammers in the big blind. Matthew’s Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs were no match to Glen’s King of Spades King of Clubs, and the 6 of Clubs Jack of Clubs 2 of Hearts 2 of Spades 9 of Hearts board was his last of the tournament. Matthew also collected $2,200 for his run.

Shortly after, Joseph doubled his short stack off Jimmy Setna, and then found himself all-in versus Randy Khalil.

Joseph: Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts

Randy: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts

Board: 4 of Hearts Ace of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts 3 of Clubs

Joseph almost improved enough to win the hand, but inevitably placed in 12th place, earning $2,700. Randy now has around 6,200,000 in chips, putting him far ahead of the field. There will be a break in 10 minutes, during which we will publish the chip counts of all the players left.

Antia gets rivered, out in 15th

We caught up to action on the flop, as Behram Antia, who was in the big blind position, was in the tank after preflop raiser Randy Khalil open shoved the 2 of Diamonds 4 of Spades 5 of Spades flop following Behram’s check. After a few moments, Behram committed his remaining ~1,000,000 chips, and players tabled their hands.

Behram: 5 of Clubs 7 of Clubs

Randy: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Spades

Behram was ahead at the time of the call, but Randy caught up to take the pot, as the running cards were 8 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts. Behram took $2,200 for his run, while Randy extended his chip lead.

Christopher McClung just won a huge double up, as he found all of his 1,175,000 chips in the middle, all-in preflop versus Randy Khalil.

Christopher: Ace of Clubs King of Spades

Randy: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs

Community cards: Queen of Diamonds 5 of Hearts 7 of Spades 10 of Clubs 10 of Spades

Randy is still holding just shy of 3 million after the hand, which is good for the current chip lead.

Shortly after, on the other table, Matt Ranger found himself all-in and in a race, but his 2 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts were outflopped by Ko Maddock’s Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts on the Ace of Diamonds Ace of Clubs Jack of Spades 3 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds board to place in 16th, good for $1,730.

Event 1 champion Rick Shamshoum was attempting the improbably, back-to-back bracelets in fields of over 1,000 players, however his run just ended in 17th place. He tried taking advantage of an unopened pot in late position, moving in his last 9bb with 9 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts, but unfortunately for him, Behram Antia woke up with Ace of Diamonds Ace of Hearts in the big blind. Rick made a pair on the flop, but it wasn’t enough as the community cards showed 4 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 3 of Spades King of Diamonds. He still collect $1,730 for his second deep run in as many tournaments.

A number of huge pots have just occurred on all three tables in the past orbit or two.

Samuel Louis Gagnon opened from the button, and found himself heads-up versus Frederic Mercier in the big blind. They found themselves all-in on a flop of 5 of Spades 2 of Hearts 3 of Hearts, and turned out to be both drawing to a flush! Samuel held 7 of Hearts 8 of Hearts, while Frederic had the 10 of Hearts 5 of Hearts. The running cards were the 6 of Hearts 4 of Clubs, and Frederic saw a pot of nearly 2 million get shipped his way. Samuel was left with only 200,000 behind, but has since run it up to over 500,000, only to lose it shortly after with AQo versus QQ.

Randy Khalil opened to 150,00 from utg, and then 4bet shoved after Richard Figiel raised to 400,000. Randy turned over AKo, and managed to spike an ace on the board to overcome the pair of jacks of Richard to double up his 955,000 stack.

Marc Guerbilsky also doubled up, as his Queen of Spades 10 of Spades cracked the Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs of Jimmy Setna on a 3 of Hearts 6 of Spades Jack of Spades King of Diamonds 2 of Spades board to double up to over 1,400,000. Not too long after, it was Jimmy who was on the cracking end, as he called the all-in of Francois Bernier on a 5 of Hearts 10 of Spades Ace of Spades flop holding Queen of Spades Jack of Spades. Francois turned over Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs, but his set was no good once the running cards brought the King of Hearts Queen of Diamonds.

In the mean time, we also lost Geri Casey, who moved in for 285,000 after Randy Khalil opened to 150,000. Her KJo was far ahead of Randy’s K8o, but he managed to spike an 8 on the turn to score the knockout.

Action is down to two tables now, and level 28 has just begun.

    Early eliminations

A few quick eliminations happened to start Day 3 of The $250 Frenzy, as some players returned short stacked with little room to manoeuvre.

The first to go was Steven Wilson, who 3bet his remaining ~600,000 with 6 of Diamonds 6 of Spades after Joseph Abou Khalil opened with Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds. With no help on the board, Steven made his way to the cashiers after only one hand of play in Day 3.

Almost in the same time, Guillermo Pureza moved in his short stack after an open from Christopher McClung. Guillermo turned over Ace of Hearts 3 of Hearts, but failed to improve versus the 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs of Christopher on a 10 of Hearts 4 of Spades King of Clubs King of Hearts 7 of Spades board.

In just under an hour, the 22 players remaining in Event 3 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net – better known as The $250 Frenzy – will be taking their seats to resume play in Day 3 of the event. Blinds tonight will be 40 minutes in length (until the tourney is heads-up), and play is 9-handed.

    Christopher McClung

    Christopher McClung

Overall the remaining field seems quite strong. Near the top of the leaderboard is Players Club member Chris McClung, who was also among the leaders to start Day 2. Chris is certainly one of the most accomplished players at the table – but judging by the play last night, he’s far from the only player with “game”.

There’s another player to pay attention to among those still in the action: Event 1 Champion, Rick Shamshoum. The $150 Re-entry/$250 Re-entry “double” has never been accomplished here, and winning both tournaments back to back would be an incredible achievement.

In addition to Chris and Rick, there are 4 Playground tournament regulars in the field who have consistently proven their tournament abilities over the years: Matt Ranger, Randy Khalil, Marc Guerbilsky, and Joseph Abou Khalil. Matt and Randy both have healthy stacks, but any of these 4 could spell danger for the rest of the field.

Good luck to everyone still in the event, and we’ll have full coverage from the beginning of the evening until a champion is crowned.

    Event 3 – Results & Payouts

    2015/04/28 - 3:07 by

The $250 Frenzy was Event 3 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net. It was a $225 + $25 NL Hold’em Re-entry tournament with 6 Day 1s that were held between April 24th and April 26th, 2015. Days 2-3 were played on April 27th and 28th. When the number of entries for all 6 starting days were tallied, there were a total of 1,076 entries in the event, which generated a prize pool of $234,837.00. The prize pool was distributed according to the following table.

Note there was a player deal made at two players remaining. The players reserved $5,000 and the bracelet for the winner and divided the remaining prize pool evenly ($34,133.00). The final payout table reflects this player arrangement.
