Last two levels of the night

Action has been fast and furious here in these past two levels of The $250 Frenzy, partly due to the “make it or break it” stage of the tournament, but also partly due to the combinations of hands that have been coming out. It’s been premium versus premium everytime we peak at the action on a table!

Level 25 has just begun, which means Day 2 will be over in under an hour. The remaining players will return tomorrow to crown a champion.

    Level 22 update

Level 22 has just begun here in Day 2 of The $250 Frenzy, and the field has been reduced down to 8 tables. Players will be going on a short break following this level, during which we will bring you some chip counts of the top stacks. For the time being, it seems to still be Randy Khalil who is in the chiplead, sitting on roughly 850,000. Daniel Boisvert is right on his tail though, as his stack has just recently crossed the 800,000 mark as well.

After the break, play will continue for 4 more levels before the remainder of the field bag their chips onto Day 3, scheduled tomorrow at 7pm.

On the back of the dealer chairs, you will notice a set of LED lights that are used for various reasons to communicate with the rest of the staff. The yellow light means a waitress is being called, the red light is used to call the floor over in emergency situations, and the green one is to signal a player has been eliminated. Since the money has bubble has burst here in Event 3, we’ve seen green lights being turned on left and right, as numerous players have recently been eliminated. This is often the case following the money-bubble, as some players become very passive leading up to the money, to assure they don’t walk out empty handed, and this results in many short stacks being created. Once the tournament falls into the money, these players are relieved of some pressure and open up their game dramatically.

On the third hand of hand-for-hand, we saw Wesley Mark Thompson open from utg to 25,000 on table 66. It folded around to Patrick Boisvert on the button, who elected to 3bet his last 103,000. This put Wesley into the tank for a few minutes, as it represented around 60% of his total chips, and after a few moments he opted for the call. Patrick turned over Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts, and Wesley turned over King of Hearts 6 of Hearts, murmuring “Well, I have 1 over”.

Wesley found some luck on the board though, as the window card was in fact his 1 over, and he scored the knockout on the Ace of Clubs 4 of Hearts King of Diamonds 2 of Clubs 3 of Clubs board to bring Event 3 into the money!

Congratulations to the players who are still in!

    Chipleaders at the bubble

Players are on a short break following level 18, and by coincidence, the tournament has fallen to 109 players, which means we are on the money bubble! Play will be hand-for-hand until we have an elimination. Here are the top stacks during this break:

    1. Randy Khalil – 786,000
    2. Daniel Boisvert – 611,000
    3. Behram Antia – 609,000
    4. Richard Hardy – 440,000
    5. Nick Petsas – 439,000
    6. Maurice Simard – 429,000
    7. Christopher McClung – 428,000

It is interesting to point out the wide gap between 3rd in chips and 4th, as more than 150,000 separate the two! The top three have really jumped ahead of the rest of the field, with Randy holding nearly 4 times the average stack.

    The money bubble looms

We are approaching that milestone moment in a tournament that determines who will be walking out with money, and who will be going home empty-handed: the money bubble. With 129 players left in contention, the pressure of the bubble is here, as only 108 will walk out with a prize. Stay tuned to find out who makes the cut, and who doesn’t!

    Early Day 2 photos

208 players came back tonight for Day 2 of The $250 Frenzy, and 108 of them will be walking out with a cash prize of at least $490. We’re mid-way through the second level of the night, and have already seen 40 players hit the rail so far. The bubble is still relatively far, but will surely be making it’s presence felt very soon.
