Event 6 champion: Daniel Kwon

2015/04/29 - 5:29 by Playground Poker

Event 6 champion: Daniel Kwon

Event 6 Champion: Daniel Kwon

Daniel Kwon came close to winning a bracelet just a few nights ago, as he placed 3rd in Event 2 of this Playground Poker Spring Classic. He was disappointed in not taking it home back then, and it was quite evident that he was determined to not let that happen again tonight. When play was 4-handed, he found himself 1 card away from victory, as he held all three other players on the brink of elimination with his pocket pair of KK. Unfortunately for him, Alexandre Douville ran a flush to win the pot, bringing the tournament down to heads-up.

Daniel started the heads-up match holding only 15% of the chips in play, but quickly took over the chip lead to eventually knock Alexandre out, making him our Event 6 champion! This victory credited him a total 1st prize of $3,342, and also awarded him the Playground Poker Spring Classic bracelet he was so determined to win!

In addition to his win, Daniel was also our “Bounty Hunter” of the night, as he collected the most bounties of the night, racking in a total of 11 bounty chips (including his own, which he gets to cash in as well), worth an extra $1,100 in cash! Sean Windover, who was part of the 6-way deal, was second in bounty chips, as he collected 9 of them to pocket $900 cash.

Congratulations!

Play opened up a considerable amount after the deal was made, and the two shorter stacks, Sean Windover and Robin Clouatre, were almost instantly eliminated. After several hands of back and forth, a wild hand occurred, as all 4 remaining players found themselves all-in.

Alexandre: Ace of Clubs 3 of Hearts

Daniel: King of Clubs King of Spades

Julio: Ace of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

Vo: King of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Daniel Kwon, who had the biggest stack, limped under the gun and then called once all three other players moved in one after the other. He was the favourite to win the hand, and therefore the whole tournament, as long as his pair could hold. This was not the case however, as Alexandre ran a flush on the Jack of Hearts 3 of Clubs 7 of Clubs 10 of Clubs 9 of Clubs board to win the massive pot, worth 85% of the chips in play. Daniel was left with around 700,000, but doubled it up in the first hand of heads-up versus Alexandre.

This hand strangely resembles one that occurred here less than a year ago, where Robert Notkin went on to eliminate his final three opponents to win the PokerStars Canada Cup Main Event. Robert, chip leader at the time, also limped under the gun with a pair of KK, and called after all three of his opponents moved all-in. The outcome tonight was a little different, as Robert won the hand, and with it the tournament. You can read about the hand here.

It was only around 15 minutes ago that James Bernard Sullivan was holding the chip lead, and turned down a deal proposed by some of the players on the final table. After losing chips to Vo Victor Ly and then doubling Alexandre Douville, he then found himself all-in and at risk, again versus Alexandre.

James: 9 of Clubs 10 of Clubs

Alexandre: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts

Community cards: King of Diamonds 6 of Spades King of Spades 5 of Hearts 2 of Spades

With James out of the picture, the clock is now paused, and the players are discussing a potential deal.

Kliment Tarmakov was sitting in the big blind with around 7BB, and was facing an all-in from Vo Victor Ly from late position, who had him covered. He opted for the call, but found himself needing help.

Kliment: Ace of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds

Vo: Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Community cards: 3 of Spades Jack of Spades 2 of Clubs King of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Not long after, it was Levi Stevens who was all-in and behind, as his 6 of Clubs 6 of Hearts was trailing the 10 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs of James Bernard Sullivan. The flop couldn’t save Levi, who made his way to the cashiers in 8th place.
