Play in the $1000 + $100 WPT Warm-up shows no signs of slowing down as players are being eliminated at a very quick rate. In just the last level and a half the field has diminished to 12 players and the final table is now in sight.

Here are the most recent eliminations:

    • 17th place: Chanracy Khun, $2,260.00
    • 16th place: Ami Alibay, $2,260.00
    • 15th place: Grant Fallis, $2,670.00
    • 14th place: Griffin Benger, $2,670.00
    • 13th place: Ari Engel, $2,670.00

Griffin’s elimination was a little salty. On an 8-high board, he shoved holding pocket Jacks and was called by Alex Fortin Demers with top pair and a straight draw. Alex’s top pair came out on the turn and Griffin hit the rail.

Ari’s elimination was a two-part affair, with Andrew’s Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds out-flopping Ari’s 8 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs on a 7 of Diamonds Queen of Clubs King of Clubs flop with no help in store from the turn or river. This took him down to 23K, and Andrew relieved him of that small stack on the following hand when his Ace of Spades King of Clubs held up against Ari’s short-stack shove with Jack of Hearts 3 of Hearts.

There was a passage of 4 hands on Table 36 that brought the field to 18 players and the redraw – although it was 3 hands after everyone initially thought.

    Hand 1

Some blind-on-blind action to start. Ari Engel – who started the day short stacked and was still quite short – raised to 37K. Robert Taylor responded to the seeming steal attempt by raising all in, and Ari quickly called.

Robert: Jack of Spades Queen of Spades
Ari: King of Clubs 10 of Spades

Ari’s King-high held up on the following board: 2 of Spades Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 7 of Clubs.

Robert was convinced he’d been eliminated in the hand, and made it all of the way to the Tournament Desk to pick up his payout coupon before he was informed that he still had just over 20K in chips left – so he returned to the table to continue play.

    Hand 2

Action folds around to Ari on the button and he opens all-in. Robert calls with his very short stack and the big blind folds. Ari holds 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs while Robert has 6 of Spades Jack of Diamonds. The board runs out 4 of Hearts Queen of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds to give Robert virtually a quadruple up once the blinds and antes are considered.

    Hand 3

There is a raise and everyone folds – and apparently Robert feels he has enough chips to fold.

    Hand 4

Robert successfully ladders up at least one payout position as Geoffrey Robert McNeely gets it in on the 8 of Spades 10 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds flop against Michael Wang. However, Michael has the better kicker with his Ace of Clubs 10 of Spades compared with Geoff’s Queen of Clubs 10 of Clubs. The turn and river are dealt: 5 of Hearts 2 of Clubs.

19th place: Geoffrey Robert McNeely, $1,990

Edward Hislop has been eliminated in 25th place and is the bubble player in Event 7. We arrived on the turn with King of Spades 2 of Spades 6 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts on the board. Kane Kalas was first to act and bet 56K. Edward made the call. The river was dealt: 2 of Hearts. Kane led out – this time with an all-in bet of his much larger stack than Edward’s was.

Edward went into the tank, but not for long – he made the call for his tournament life… and lost to Kane’s King of Hearts 2 of Clubs.

The very next hand, Jeremy Lyons was eliminated for a min-cash so there are now 23 players remaining.
