Event 5 Champion: Francois Goulet

Event 5 Champion: Francois Goulet

Event 5 Champion Francois Goulet

Francois Goulet had a quiet tournament all the way until the final table, and then he – and his chip stack – exploded! By the time the event was 8-way, he had around 25% of the chips in play, and when it was down to 6, he started at approximately 40% of the chips in the event.

With such a dominant stack size facing them, none of the other players were able to manage to equalize – or even to take a big piece from Francois. And so once there were just 4 players remaining, the tournament moved very quickly to its conclusion.

In the final hand of the tourney, John Paul Tabago (who was playing 582K) raised to 60K and Francois 3-bet shoved. John Paul made the call.

Francois: 2 of Hearts 2 of Clubs
John Paul: Ace of Diamonds 7 of Hearts

The community cards came out almost perfectly for Francois: 10 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs Queen of Clubs Queen of Spades 5 of Spades. Francois’ deuces weren’t counterfeit and he had faded all of the Aces and 7s to take the bracelet and the $15,000 top prize.

Event 4, a $100 + $10 Deepstack Turbo 1-day event that started this afternoon, attracted a total of 136 players, which is not bad for a Monday afternoon! When all was said and done, it was Rejean Grenier who was crowned champion, as he overcame heads-up opponent Jody Miall to take down the Playground Poker Spring Classic bracelet, and the $2,893 prize that came along with it!

What they’re playing for

Poker players are always playing for prize money, but in big events there’s usually an additional prize they’re fighting for, and the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net is no exception!

In addition to his or her prize money, each side-event champion will also receive a stunning Spring Classic bracelet, produced exclusively for this tournament series. The first two bracelets have already been awarded in Events 1 and 2, but there are another 13 left to be awarded. Maybe one will be awarded to you!

Event 2 Champion: Christopher B

Event 2 Champion: Christopher B

Heads-up play didn’t last very long in Event 2, as moments after it began both players found themselves in an all-in race. Christopher B finished with the better hand, as his King of Spades Queen of Diamonds outflopped the 9 of Spades 9 of Hearts of V.L. to crown him champion of Event 2. He took home $4,892, as well as a Playground Poker Spring Classic bracelet for his efforts!

Congratulations!

The Wild $150 Champion: Rick Shamshoum!

2015/04/24 - 3:12 by Playground Poker

The Wild $150 Champion: Rick Shamshoum!

We have just crowned our first bracelet winner of this year’s edition of the Playground Poker Spring Classic, as Rick Shamshoum defeated heads-up opponent Philippe Lauzon to take home the bracelet, and the $28,780 prize that came along with it!

Heads-up play was fairly uni-directional, as Rick gave up very few pots, and won far more of them. In the last hand of play, Rick opened to 700,000, and quickly called when Philippe moved in for 5,175,000. He tabled Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds, and was in great shape versus the King of Diamonds Queen of Spades of Philippe. The board ran in favour of Rick, awarding him the pot and the victory!

Congratulations Rick!

Guy Carbonneau pays Playground Poker Club a visit

Guy Carbonneau pays Playground Poker Club a visit

Although it’s only been a few short years since Playground Poker Club opened its doors, we have made many friendships during this time, from local to international players, amateurs to professionals, even television stars, sports celebrities, and many others. Every now and again, one of these familiar faces drops by the club to say hello, play some cards, or simply enjoy a tasty meal and beverage at The Rail Coal Fire Bistro.

Tonight, we have the pleasure of hosting local legend Guy Carbonneau, a local hockey hero and former head coach. Although he is quite the avid poker player, Guy is here simply to enjoy a drink at The Rail while watching tonight’s hockey games. A little bird did tell us he might be back to play Event 5, the $500 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Freeze later this week, scheduled for Tuesday at 11am.

The countdown clock has wound down to just 15 minutes and when that time has passed, another Playground Poker Spring Classic will be underway! Everyone here at the club is excited for the next 18 straight days of poker tournaments – and there’s sure to be some amazing cash game action as well!

As usual at Playground, the festival kicks off with one of our signature events, known as The Wild $150! It’s a $135 + $15 No Limit Hold’em tournament with 4 Day 1s (two today, and then on Monday and Tuesday evening). The event has a $100K Guaranteed prize pool, and first place typically ends up paying well over $30K!

Welcome to all of the players and good luck in your events!
