Late exits…
Dinner break chip leader Brian Wang has been eliminated from Day 1a at the beginning of level 10. Since the half-way point of level 9, we’ve lost several other prominent players including Samuel Chartier, Jeff Gross, Marc André Ladouceur among others. Chartier and Gross both spent much of the day on the very challenging Table 50, which has claimed more than its share of victims today.
Some players still in this first starting flight in the event as the last level of play winds down are Ari Engel, Kane Kalas, Xuan Liu, TJ Ulmer, Matthew Salsberg, and Lucas Greenwood. There are three players left who have had significant pas successes in big events hosted at Playground Poker Club: Tim Reilly, Ami Alibay, and Pascal Lefrancois.
We’ll publish full chip counts for the players remaining in the tournament a few minutes after the action wraps up tonight.
Leah in the lead with one level to go
Mike Leah
Mike Leah has been steadily chipping up his stack throughout this Day 1A of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, and is currently sitting atop the leaderboard entering this last level of play of the day, holding a stack slightly above the 250,000 mark.
Shortly after players have bagged and tagged their chips, we will be publishing the full list of player-report chip counts from this flight.
Mclaughlin springs up the leaderboard
Marc Etienne Mclaughlin
We just witnessed a hand that put Marc Etienne Mclaughlin amongst the chipleaders.
It all started with a raise from Diana Shamshoum to 2,200 from under the gun. Marc Etienne made the call from the cutoff, and Quyen Dao then 3bet to 9,000 from the small blind. Diana got out of the way, and Marc Etienne put in a 4bet to 18,500. Quyen threw in some calling chips, and they were heads-up to the flop.
Flop:
Quyen, first to act, check-called Marc Etienne’s bet of 15,500.
Turn:
Quyen checked, and this time Marc Etienne wagered the rest of his chips, a total of 53,500. Quyen tanked for a few minutes, murmuring to himself, before finally committing the chips.
Marc Etienne:
Quyen:
Quyen had but two outs that could save him, but the river only improved Marc Etienne’s hand, who collected a pot worth almost 180,000!
Last break of the day
The players are taking their last break of the day, and will play for two more 1-hour levels before bagging and tagging for Day 2. We took this time to update the leaderboard, and here are the current leaders:
