A few updates…
Earlier tonight, here on the blog we focused on a couple of interesting tidbits as play began. We just updated the status of the last longer in play, and now the rest of the stories:
- The elder Peter Johnson is out of the tournament, but the younger Peter Johnson is still in, and has a healthy stack on an active table.
- Carla Sabini made an appearance on our recent leaderboard and has chipped up further to about 290K.
- Isham also continues to do well, and now has approximately 320K.
- Rick Shamshoum also made an appearance on the leaderboard, and looks to be playing about 400K at this time. Tina, although she started with a relatively short stack, continues to grind and has built up a stack of around 100K.
The Prince Poker last longer is still in play!
As part of their “Équipe de rêve PartyPoker-WPT” promotion, Prince Poker is giving away a seat to the WPT Canadian Spring Championship Main Event to the winner of the last longer they set-up for The Wild $150. Three players still remain, with Alan Yifan Dong (~380,000) far ahead of Frederick Desjardins (~92,000) and Jean-Luc Gauthier (~37,500). Stay tuned to find out who will be the winner!
Good luck to you gentlemen!
Level 17
After a number of early eliminations, action has slowed down a little in this Day 2, as the average stack has deepened. The money bubble is slowly approaching, as we are around 50 eliminations away. There will be a short break after level 18, during which we will update the leaderboard.

Counts into level 16
The players remaining in Event 1 have just returned from their first break of the day. During the break tournament staff removed the black T100 chips from play, and we took the opportunity to update the leaderboard.

Current chip leader Christopher Tavares
Quite a few players have already made huge gains on their starting stack today – chips that will serve them well as the tournament inevitably winds down towards the bubble.

Level 15
Level 15 is just about finished here in Day 2, and as some players are unfortunately being sent to the rail, others are building empires of chips. There will be a short break before level 16, so stay tuned as we will be bringing an update on the top stacks.

There is no lack of action so far in this Day 2 of The Wild $150, as we’ve already seen some huge swings in chips. Players will earn a short break after level 15, during which we will be updating the leaderboard.

Some of the stories tonight
In any large field – and 274 players to start a Day 2 definitely qualifies – there are certain to be some interesting anecdotes and tidbits of information about the field.
Some of the interesting anecdotes about the remaining players:
- There is one father-son group left in the action. Peter Johnson and his son Peter Johnson are regular visitors to Playground, and both are experienced poker players. Usually, however, when one of the pair does well, the other doesn’t succeed, and vice-versa. They’re both in the field tonight!
- A frequent big-event player and something of a local star is Carla Sabini, who is most famous for running deep in the EPT London Main Event a couple of years ago – and using her winnings to buy directly into the High Roller event – which she final tabled! Unfortunately, Carla hasn’t had that much success here in the past – but she qualified for Day 2 with one of the top stacks, and she’s hoping the monkey is off her back!
- Prince Poker, an important locally-run poker news site (and more) has had a promotion called “L’équipe de rève PartyPoker-WPT” and a part of this is a last-longer between players in The Wild $150, with the winner receiving an entry in the partypoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship. There are just 3 players left in the running: Alan Yi Fan Dong, Jean-Luc Gauthier, and Frédéric Desjardins. As they say in French: à suivre!
- The chip leader to start the day, Isham Yamani, has been on an amazing run in these multi-day $150 tourneys. He was among the Day 2 chip leaders in the same event during the Playground Winter Festival and has final tabled the event in the past.
- There’s a husband-wife team left in the event as well. Rick Shamshoum and his wife Tina both started the day. Tina starts a little short-stacked, but she’s an experienced player, so… anything could happen…
Day 2 of The Wild $150 begins!
The tournament hall is packed tonight at Playground Poker Club, as 274 players are back to continue this opening event of the Playground Poker Spring Classic. The Wild $150, which has become the traditional kick-off tournament for our recent series, attracted a total of 1,188 entries over four flights.
Leading the field is local hero Isham Yamani, who was the only player who bagged over 300,000, and he is closely followed by Charles-Eric Benoit and Christopher Tavares, who bagged 280,000 apiece. Only 5 other players find themselves above the 200,000 mark, but with the average at 86,200 and the blinds starting at 1.2K / 2.4K / a400, it is still anyones game.
The tournament is schedule to play for 13 levels of 30-minutes each tonight, and those that remain at the end of this will return tomorrow night for Day 3, where a champion will be crowned!
Good luck!
Event 1 – Day 2 Seating Draw (with counts)
This is the official seating chart for Day 2 of The Wild $150, Event 1 in the Playground Poker Spring Classic 2015.
The four starting flights had a total of 1,188 entries, and of these, 278 entries qualified for Day 2. There were 4 players who qualified twice for Day 2 in this event (Michel Bergeron, Omkar Deshmukh, Scott Shelvock, and Ricky Campanelli). The smaller of each player’s two qualifying stacks have been removed, and removal of these double entries leaves 274 players who will take their seats to start Day 2.
Play resumes in level 14 (1.2K,2.4K,a400) at 7pm on Wednesday April 22nd. When the tournament resumes, play will be 9-handed on 31 tables. The money bubble will be reached at 117 players.
