The Champion: Sheraz Nasir!

2015/05/06 - 19:41 by

The Champion: Sheraz Nasir!

The blind levels had reduced to 30 minutes heads up as per the published event rules, and during the 3rd level of heads up play, Lu’s stack had dwindled to as low as 13 bb.

In the ultimate hand of the event, Lu opened preflop to 525K and Sheraz called. The flop was dealt: Jack of Diamonds 6 of Spades 3 of Spades. Sheraz checked and Lu checked behind. The turn was the 6 of Hearts. Sheraz led out with a 500K bet, and Lu responded by going all in for her last 1,750,000 chips… Sheraz made a quick call.

Lu: Ace of Spades 2 of Diamonds
Sheraz: 2 of Spades 2 of Diamonds

The river was a 7 of Diamonds – and Sheraz’s 2 pair were good! Sheraz Nasir is the champion of the partypoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship for 2015!

Sheraz won $237,390.00 PLUS a WPT World Championship entry (worth US$15,400), and the exclusive Playground Champion’s Belt! In addition, his name will be inscribed for all time on the WPT Champion’s Trophy.

For her runner up finish, Lu “Chanel” Zhang wins $166,402.00.

Congratulations to both Sheraz and Lu on their results today!

Lu Zhang just lost a good portion of her stack, as she check-called on three streets from the big blind, only to find out her opponent made 2-pairs on the 2 of Spades Jack of Hearts 8 of Clubs 10 of Clubs 4 of Clubs board. Sheraz raised to 350,000 preflop, then bet 400,000, 500,000 and 700,000 respectively, to table 8 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds for eights-up. Lu mucked her hand, leaving her with just a little over 2,000,000.

We’re on a short break here as the TDs are racing off the T5,000 chips. Sheraz has regained the lead in this heads-up battle, as he has chipped up to 6,600,000, while Lu has dropped to 4,475,000.

Play resumes in level 32 momentarily, where the blinds will be 75,000 / 150,000.

Two big hands have recently developed here on this final table, and one nearly cancelled the other in terms of chip displacements.

On the first hand, Lu fired a river-bet of 710,000 into a 1,000,000 pot when she made a flush with 7 of Clubs 3 of Clubs, and Sheraz called with Jack of Spades 5 of Spades for a full house on a Jack of Clubs 9 of Spades 5 of Hearts 9 of Clubs 5 of Clubs board.

On the next hand, she 4bet shoved for 2,400,000 preflop with Ace of Hearts King of Spades, and doubled up versus the King of Hearts Jack of Spades of Sheraz on a 6 of Spades 10 of Hearts King of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds board.

She won a few more pots and is now only 75,000 behind in chips, not even a full big blind!

Play has been quite slow here in the heads-up confrontation between Lu Zhang and Sheraz Nasir, but after Sheraz took the early lead, Lu put her game face on and grinded it back to nearly even. She now holds 5,315,000 chips, just a little behind the 5,770,000 Sheraz, but with the blinds at 50,000 / 100,000, it’s very much anyone’s game.

Levi Stevens falls in 3rd; picks up 6-figure payday

    Levi Stevens

Levi Stevens has been grinding a short stack for a few orbits now, and we’ve seen him pull the trigger a number of times so far, most of which were uncalled. On this last hand, he moved in from the button for 505,000, and found a call from Lu Zhang in the big blind.

Levi: King of Spades 3 of Hearts

Lu: King of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

The window cards put Levi in heaps of trouble, as it paired Lu’s kicker. With 4 of Clubs Queen of Spades 10 of Spades 5 of Hearts 9 of Spades showing on the table, Levi shook his opponents hands and made his exit in 3rd place, collecting a 6-figure payday.

    3rd place: Levi Stevens – $106,820
