Samuel Bisrat Tsehai eliminated by Lu Zhang

Samuel Bisrat Tsehai, who came in today as the chip leader, has just made an exit in this WPT Canadian Spring Championship.

He opened from under the gun to 51,000, and was flat called by Lu Zhang in the small blind. On a flop of 3 of Diamonds 8 of Spades 9 of Diamonds, Lu check raised a bet of 65,000 up to 152,000. Samuel made the call, and they went to see the 9 of Clubs turn. Lu put maximum pressure on Samuel by moving all-in, and Samuel made the call after a minute of hesitation.

Lu tabled King of Diamonds King of Clubs, and only had two outs to dodge to eliminate Samuel and his Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts. The river 5 of Spades was a blank, and just like that Samuel went from chip leader a few hours ago to eliminated!

Johnathan Karamakilis opened to 50,000 from utg +1, and Pascal Lefrancois 3bet his 567,000 stack. It folded back around to the initial raiser, who almost immediately made the call.

Johnathan: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Spades

Pascal: Ace of Clubs Queen of Hearts

Pascal connected on the Queen of Clubs Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts 4 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds board to bring him up to over 1,100,000, while Johnathan fell to 260,000 after the hand.

Jeff Gross has been playing a relatively small stack since the beginning of the action on Day 3, finding some great spots and applying the right pressure at the right time to stay in the tournament – but his luck has now run out in the event.

Jeff opened all in for 283K from middle position and action folded around to Trevor Delaney (button) who made the call.

Jeff: Ace of Spades 9 of Hearts
Trevor: Jack of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Trevor’s pocket pair held up through the flop of 7 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs 10 of Hearts and then the turn 5 of Spades and river King of Clubs, and Jeff was eliminated.

Eric Afriat goes down in 14th place

It seemed like Eric Afriat was going to make a comeback after having been crippled to 12,000 by Senthuran a few hands earlier, as he first quadrupled his stack up to 45,000, then doubled it up shortly after to climb into the 6-figures.

Sitting in the small blind, he went all-in after play folded around to him, and Gary Lucci called from the big blind.

Eric: 8 of Spades 9 of Spades

Gary: 6 of Hearts 8 of Hearts

The flop was interesting for both parties, but Gary’s hand was the eventual winner on the 4 of Diamonds 6 of Spades 4 of Spades 3 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts board.

    Senthuran cripples Afriat

With 241,000 to his name, Senthuran Vijayaratnam was facing an unopened pot on the button and pulled the trigger, announcing all-in. Eric Afriat made the call from the small blind, and Gary Lucci folded his big blind.

Senthuran: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds

Eric: Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds

Eric couldn’t catch up on the 2 of Hearts 8 of Hearts King of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 8 of Spades board, and was crippled to 12,000 in the process.

Eric folded the next hand, losing 3,000 due to the ante, and was all-in on the following hand. His King of Diamonds 5 of Spades made top pair, and was good versus three other opponents to win a pot of 45,000.

    Wilkerson doubles through Zhang

Dylan Wilkerson opened from the button, and was faced with a 3bet from Lu Zhang to 112,000. Dylan opted for the 4bet all-in, a total of 437,000, forcing Lu into the tank. She made the call after a a little hesitation, and their hands were tabled.

Dylan: Queen of Hearts Jack of Hearts

Lu: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Clubs

Dylan caught just enough on the river to score the double up, as the board read King of Clubs King of Spades 6 of Spades 4 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds.

    Zhang chips up

Lu Zhang opened to 45,000 from utg +1, and found a call from Samuel Bisrat Tsehai in the cutoff, and Trevor Delaney in the big blind. Trevor donk-bet 62,000 on the 8 of Hearts 5 of Spades 4 of Clubs flop, and was called only by Lu. Heads-up on the turn, Trevor checked the Queen of Spades, and called the 82,000 bet of Lu. When the river pealed the 6 of Spades, Trevor lead out for 102,000, and quickly called the raise to 327,000 by Lu.

He mucked his hand when Lu tabled Ace of Clubs 7 of Clubs for the straight, announcing he caught two-pair on the river with 64.

    Edmund Campion out 15th

Edmund Campion is the first player to be eliminated in Day 4. He had just lost a good portion of his stack to Jeff Gross when he was dealt another hand upon which he could gamble his last 168K. Action folded around to Samuel Bisrat Tsehai, who didn’t seem happy about the situation but said, “I can’t really fold here” and threw in a chip.

Edmund: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs
Samuel: Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades

Edmund was a big favourite to win the hand, and the flop Jack of Spades 3 of Clubs 4 of Hearts was good for him. The 10 of Hearts on the turn, however, was the worst card and the 2 of Spades on the river didn’t put him back in the lead.

15th place: Edmund John Campion, $14,130.00
