The Wild $150 Champion: Tina

2016/04/22 - 1:54 by Playground Poker

The Wild $150 Champion: Tina

The first event of the Playground Poker Spring Classic is over, and after 34 levels of play spread across 3 days of poker, it was finally Tina who emerged as The Wild $150 Champion! She navigated her way across a massive 1,168 player field to find herself as the last one standing, and earned herself a sweet $24,950 cash prize as well as a Playground Poker Spring Champion’s Trophy!

She arrived at the final table 2nd in chips, and although she slid down the leaderboard a few levels in, she kept her composure and fought her way back up. When play fell 3-handed, a deal was proposed, however given she was the short-stack and the ICM deal only offered her a little more than the already locked-in 3rd place amount, she refused the deal and play resumed. It didn’t take her long to take over the chip lead, as only a few orbits following the deal she won a huge pot versus chip leader at-the-time David St-Louis.

After David’s elimination in 3rd place, Tina found herself heads-up versus Martin Lapostolle with even chip stacks. The two players agreed to an even-chop, leaving the required $3,000 for the eventual winner. After nearly a full level of heads-up play, Tina raised with a pair in hand, and called off the limp-shove of Martin in the small blind. Tina’s 8 of Clubs 8 of Hearts won the race versus her opponent’s Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades, crowning her as The Wild $150 champion!

Congratulations!

Once David St-Louis was eliminated in 3rd, the two remaining players in The Wild $150 counted their stacks, and found themselves to be within one big blind of each other. They decided to split the remaining prize money 50/50, however the tournament does require an extra $3,000 to be awarded to the eventual winner, who will also take home the Playground Poker Spring Classic Champion’s Trophy.

Tina and Martin have now locked in a guaranteed $21,949 payday, and are currently in heads-up action for the remaining $3,000.

    Congratulations!

After doubling Tina up a few hands earlier, David St-Louis wasn’t able to recover and inevitably finished his deep run in 3rd place.

In his final hand, he 3bet shoved for just over 4 million after Martin placed a button-raise to 600,000. Martin tabled 10 of Spades 10 of Diamonds, and his pair held versus the Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds of David on a Jack of Diamonds 3 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds board.

Play is now heads-up between Tina (11,700,000) and Martin (11,475,000).

After refusing a 3-way deal as the short-stack only a few minutes ago, Tina has stepped on the gas and taken over the chip lead here in the final stages of The Wild $150.

She won a few pots uncontested to chip up to a little over 5.5 million, and then squeezed all-in from the big blind after Martin flatted the 500,000 open from David preflop. David made the call, forcing Martin out of the hand, and the race was on.

Tina: Ace of Hearts 10 of Clubs

David: 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs

Tina finished with 2-pair on the Jack of Spades 7 of Spades 10 of Diamonds 9 of Spades Ace of Clubs board, and took a pot worth almost 12-million, putting her in charge with 3 players left.

Kevin Daily called David St-Louis’ preflop-raise, and the two players took a walk to first street. On a flop showing 6 of Spades 8 of Clubs 2 of Clubs, Kevin check-shoved following a c-bet worth 500,000. David did some quick math in his head, and eventually made the call for Kevin’s total bet of 1,775,000.

David: Ace of Hearts King of Spades

Kevin: 9 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds

David came from behind and spiked the river, as the running cards brought the 8 of Diamonds and the Ace of Clubs, sending Kevin out in 4th place with a 5-figure payday.

A full level has passed since the last break, and although we’ve seen a few all-in / calls, it was always the shorter stack that took the hand. David St-Louis has chipped up into the lead, as he now sits on just over 7 million, while Martin trails by only a few hundred thousand. Kevin Daily and Mustafa Erzincanli are the two short stacks, both holding around 2.5 million each, while Tina is a little over 4 million.
