Event 17 Champion: Joey “Birdman” Boczek

Event 17 Champion: Joey “Birdman” Boczek

The road was long for Joey Boczek – with 230 players in the event, it took over 10 hours to play down to a champion in this final event in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net. Joey had a lead for most of the play on the final table and while he had some challenges, in many cases other players eliminated each other on the way to the championship.

Even with blind levels being what they were and the deal in place, the final table still took quite a bit of time to play through and once play got heads up, energy was flagging. So, on the first hand of heads up play the chips found their way to the middle of the felt… and Birdman was able to win his first Championship in a Playground Poker Club festival event! Anyone how knows Joey will know what this means to him.

Congratulations Birdman!

Joey “Birdman” Boczek has amazing momentum and once Roget Thibault went all in, Birdman had so many chips that his hole card holdings weren’t really germane any more… but regardless of this fact, for Roger’s final hand he had the goods.

Roger: Ace of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Joey: 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades

Board: 6 of Hearts 7 of Spades 4 of Clubs 9 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds

Kathy Sawers was among the leaders in the tournament the entire way along until about half-way through the final table. The size of the blinds had clearly modified the rhythm of the tournament by then and Kathy was somewhat of a victim of this change. It should be noted that Kathy had an excellent Spring Classic from beginning to end – she was the Champion of Event 2 and made several other deep runs.

Kathy: King of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds
Roger Thibault: Queen of Diamonds 9 of Spades

Board: 6 of Clubs Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs Ace of Clubs 9 of Diamonds

    4th place: Kathy Sawers – $6,873

The all-in frenzy continued, and with just 160K in chips, Yohann Wagner’s push was just a formality – particularly after having lost a 1M chip pot a few hands earlier. Derek Lerner made the call.

Yohann: Queen of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds
Derek: Ace of Clubs 10 of Hearts

Community cards: 2 of Clubs 8 of Hearts 10 of Clubs Queen of Clubs 10 of Spades

A little earlier, when a flop of 9 of Clubs King of Hearts 9 of Hearts was dealt, Peter Meraw checked and Kathy Sawers bet 250K. Peter then pushed for about 300K more. Kathy went in the tank but eventually called off the difference.

Kathy: Ace of Clubs 2 of Clubs
Peter: King of Spades 10 of Spades

    Turn: Ace of Hearts

    Event: Spring Classic

Tonight! The final event of the 2016 Spring Classic!

    2016/05/05 - 17:59 by

Tonight! The final event of the 2016 Spring Classic!

Tonight at 7:30pm is the beginning of the final event in the 2016 Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net. It’s a $200 + $30 + $100 NL Hold’em Bounty tournament in which each player will contribute $200 to the prize pool and another $100 to a bounty chip that they must give to the player who eliminates him or her from the tournament. This festival-closing bounty tournament has become a tradition at Playground Poker Club and is certain to feature a huge field.

One of the traditional elements in this final tournament is that staff are permitted to play the event. This adds an extra little bit of excitement to the tourney – players can test the abilities of any dealers, floor staff, wait staff, or even Live Event bloggers who join in the fun! It’s also extra value for the rest of the field, because we’ve all been working so hard we’re not necessarily at our “poker best”!

Blind levels will be 20 minutes long and players start with 25K in tournament chips. Late registration is available until just after 9pm tonight, so expect participation numbers to grow right until the end of late registration.
