Antoine Simon has rocketed to the top of the leaderboard half way through level 12, having accumulated just a shade under 200,000 in chips! The previous chip leaders (Edmond, Andrew, Tina) are all still doing well today, but Antoine has taken a 55K lead on the rest of the field. That being said, these last 2-3 levels of the day are poker’s equivalent of “moving day” and dreams can be realized – and dashed – in the big pots at the end of a Day 1.
Level 10 photos (Day 1e)
Here are a few additional photos taken during level 10 of Day 1e in The $250 Frenzy.
Familiar names on the leaderboard
Tournament staff has just removed the green T25 chips from play as players took their second break of the day, and during the break we identified the leaders in this starting flight so far. The names on the leaderboard should be pretty familiar – the top 2 players are the same as the leaders at the first break, while the new player in 3rd place was also the champion of Event 1! These three players are the only ones with 6-figure stacks to date – but they’ll be joined by many more in the next few levels.
Play continues in level 9.
- Edmond Dupuis Soulière – 149,800 chips
- Andrew Dick – 106,200 chips
- Tina S – 100,300 chips
A few more photos of the Day 1e field
Play in Day 1e has almost reached the end of level 8, following which there will be a break. There are still 123 players in the action – and some players with large stacks are beginning to emerge. During the break we’ll put together a leaderboard to see who has taken a lead on the field.

Final number for Day 1e
The official number of entries for Day 1e in Event 3 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net has been fixed now that late registration is over – this flight attracted 217 entries, bringing the grand total for the first 5 starting flights to 930 entries. This is significant because tournament buy-ins have officially passed the amount of the prize pool guarantee… and every single additional entry tonight (and over 40 today) will simply serve to build the prize pool higher and higher.
There are two chip leaders pacing the field after the first 4 levels of play today – players we’ll keep an eye on as we get deeper into the day. The two pacing the pack are Andrew Dick and Edmond Dupuis Soulière, both of whom are playing just a little over 70K.
Photos from the starting levels
Registration in ay 1e has grown to 190 entries as players continue to join the tournament and take their shot at a huge prize pool! Here are a few photos of the early field in the tourney.
And now… Day 1e!
It’s a beautiful Sunday morning in Montreal and action has just begun in Day 1e of The $250 Frenzy. This is the 5th of 6 starting flights in Event 3 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by Partypoker.net.
The first 4 flights saw a total of 713 entries, and there are already another 131 today with late registration still available for another 2 hours (until 1:15pm) so the event is on track to build a very nice prize pool – almost certainly exceeding the guaranteed $200,000!
Play will continue today through 14 30-minute levels, following which the remaining players will count and bag their chips to return to play on Day 2, Monday April 25th at 7:00pm.
Good luck to all!
Event 3 Day 1d final counts
Day 1d of Event 3 in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net saw 220 entries register to try and qualify for Day 2 on Monday. This was the 4th of 6 total starting flights, and by the end of the 14 levels of play, just 45 players remained.
Any player who entered either (or both of) today’s starting flights in the tournament may re-enter in a subsequent starting flight – this is a “next day re-entry” event, meaning that players enter each of the 6 starting flights once.

Late night update
There’s just an hour before the end of Day 1d in The $250 Frenzy in the Playground Poker Spring Classic, and all of the players still alive at the end of level 14 will have qualified to return on Monday for Day 2. There are two more chances after tonight to qualify – Day 1e and Day 1f at 11:00am Sunday and 7:30pm Sunday respectively. There have been a total of 713 entries in the first 4 starting flights, and with the Sunday starting days slated to be the busiest of all… the overall total should climb quite a bit!
A stable leaderboard
The final break of the day has finished, and the two players at the top of the leaderboard are the same as at the last count. They continue to play on the same table and the only thing that has changed are the players surrounding them at the table! During the last hand before the break, Zheng-Yi Xie eliminated a player who had just a few chips less than he had to lift him up among the leaders.
- Massimo Romanelli: 165,300 chips
- Christopher Paul Franklin: 149,000 chips
- Zheng-Yi Xie: 143,400 chips
- Nicolas Pitre: 117,600 chips
- Jessie Weatley: 112,400 chips
