Event 5 Champion Rong Xu!

Event 5 Champion: Rong Xu

As we mentioned earlier, once the deal was made the play became extremely loose as everyone was tired after a day that was already more than 13 hours long. When all was said and done, there were just two players left: Neal Thornton and Rong Xu. They played all of 3 hands heads-up before Rong was crowned the champion of Event 5!

Event 5 final results

2016/04/27 - 0:44 by Playground Poker

Event 5 in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net was a $500 + $50 NL Hold’em Freeze the began on April 26th, 2016 at 11am. It was a 1-day event with a total of 134 players that contributed to a final prize pool of $64,990.00. This prize pool was distributed according to the following table.

Note there was a player agreement reached at 5 players remaining that reserved $1,300 and the trophy for the winner and the remaining prize pool was distributed via modified (negotiated) ICM chop. The final prize numbers reflect this deal – this accounts for why the player in 3rd place won the most money – he was a big chip leader at the time of the deal.

Event: Spring Classic, Power Weekend

A deal has been reached!

2016/04/27 - 0:37 by

Players in Event 5 learned that they must reserve $1,300 and the Champion’s Trophy, and once the break arrived – after an early failed attempt at an agreement – the 5 remaining players agreed to a modified ICM chop.

Here are the agreed-to payouts: Kliment: $7,740; Rong, Neal, Yohann: $9,125; Rodney: $11,740.

Once the deal was made everyone loosened up – almost completely – and the play was as fast as possible.

There are just 5 players left in Event 5 and the players have taken a few minutes away from the table while staff removes the T1,000 chips from play.

There was some discussion of a deal several minutes ago, and with the arrival of the break, interest in this has revived so the clock is paused to allow calculations and negotiations to conclude.

Rodney rockets to the lead as 2 more are eliminated

    Rodney Ramalho

Rodney Ramalho started the day as one of the most experienced players in the tournament, and is ending it by proving what experience (plus skill and a little luck) can do for a tournament player. Although he has had a healthy stack for some time in the tournament, since the final table has come together he has managed to bump his stack up to around 1,300,000 chips – as much as 2x anyone else’s holdings to this point.

Rodney was responsible for one of the last two eliminations – Sébastien Proulx in 8th place. We missed the action, but arrived at the table to see Rodney incorporate several full stacks of 20K and 100K into his own.

    8th place: Sébastien Proulx, $2,240

Just seconds later we noticed Rong Xu make a snap call on Julien Baptiste Roger Arneodo’s small shove.

Julien: Queen of Hearts Jack of Hearts
Rong: King of Clubs King of Spades

The community cards gave Rong the full house and the win – and send Julien to the Tournament Desk to get his payout coupon.

7th place: Julien Baptiste Roger Arneodo, $2,950

First FT eliminations in Event 5

    Adrian Dominik Jandziszak

Ramesh Puradchithasan had been among the medium stacks near the bubble, but once the final table came together he found a spot to push – only to find a call from Rodney Ramalho.

Ramesh: King of Spades 7 of Hearts
Rodney: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades

The flop of 10 of Clubs 6 of Clubs 6 of Spades put Rodney well in the lead and the turn 9 of Spades and river 2 of Spades didn’t change the outcome – Rodney stacked the chips and most likely became the chip leader.

    10th place: Ramesh Puradchithasan, $1,285

Several minutes later found Adrian Dominik Jandziszak all-in and called by Neal Thornton. We missed the details, but effectively AJ lost to AQ – both hands offsuit on a rainbow board.

    Final Table – Event 5

The final 10 players in Event 5 – the $550 Freeze that started today at 11am – have now assembled at the final table as play continues towards the top of the rankings – and the most lucrative slots in the prize pool!

As a 1-day event, the fact that the average stack is still 21 bb deep says a lot about the field – they have been working their way down to this point at a reasonable clip. Once a few of the final short stacks are eliminated, the tournament should get at least a little deeper as players compete for the biggest prizes.

Dany Pacitti has been the first player eliminated in the money in Event 5. We missed the action in the hand, but Dany had been short since well before the last break and managed to survive long enough for a min-cash of $1,100.

Next to go was Francesco Maltese in 13th for $1,195. Francesco tried hard to get some kind of bubble save agreement in place but was unsuccessful as the more experienced players refused the deal flat.

Just 3 hands later, James Marvin Loder was eliminated in 12th place, also for $1,195, leaving the tournament just one elimination from the final table.

Event 5 is now officially In the Money as Marc-Andre Racine got his last 12K in the middle holding Jack of Spades 7 of Hearts. Marc-André was a little lucky to get a fold from the sb but the raise was less than the bb so Sébastien Proulx effectively called… but he held Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts and a huge lead.

The board ran out 4 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades 5 of Spades 8 of Diamonds and Marc-André hit the rail empty-handed. There are several very short stacks left at the two tables so the first few payouts should come quickly… and before long there’ll be a final table.
