Event 9 Champion Ambrose Ng

2016/04/28 - 4:19 by Playground Poker

Event 9 Champion Ambrose Ng

Tonight’s tournament lineup in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net included Event 9, a $500 + $50 PL Omaha Single Rebuy event. There were a total of 61 players in the tournament and at the end of the battle, Ambrose Ng emerged as the victor! Hadi Bechara finished in 2nd place and along the way did most of the heavy lifting by eliminating most of the others on the final table.

The final table began with negotiations about a possible deal, but at least to start with all agreements were refused – but these refusals softened after a few orbits with little progress. Various agreements were discussed, but eventually they decided on a modified chip chop with some additional prize money allocated to first and second place.

Play continued but at a very fast pace until the tournament was heads up – which was also over quickly as Ambrose Ng found himself with almost all of the chips when the following hand occurred.

Ambrose: Ace of Clubs King of Clubs 10 of Clubs 8 of Clubs

Hadi: Queen of Hearts Jack of Clubs 10 of Spades 5 of Diamonds

Community cards: 2 of Hearts 3 of Clubs 5 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts

Ambrose Ng was the champion of Event 9.

Jean-François Methot out in 3rd place

Jean-François Methot kept a low profile throughout the tournament, staying near the chip average or just below – and that’s where he began when the final table came together. His final hand came quickly and we weren’t able to capture the details – but he had managed to ladder up all the way to 3rd in the tournament.

    3rd place: Jean-François Methot, $2,975

Chris Arvanitis regularly makes deep runs in big events and tonight was no exception. By the time he made the final table, he had a huge stack and covered almost everyone at the table – but all was for nought has he lost the chips in two hands against Hadi Bechara that cost him the tournament.

The first hand found all chips bet on the flop.

Chris: Queen of Hearts 7 of Diamonds Ace of Spades King of Diamonds

Hadi: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs Jack of Clubs

Board: 4 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades 5 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds

And then a few hands later:

Chris: King of Spades Jack of Spades 10 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Hadi: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds 6 of Clubs Ace of Clubs

Board: 2 of Clubs Queen of Hearts 3 of Spades 5 of Spades Ace of Clubs

Hadi eliminated several players from the final table – ironically, the bounty tournament was being played just one table over.

    4th place: Chris Arvanitis, $5,350

    Birdman finishes 5th

    Joey Boczek

Joey Birdman Boczek is a visiting player – but such a regular visitor he’s considered by most to be a local – and a talented local at that! Full of personality, Joey is usually among the chattiest players around, and it’s always fun to play with him. His goal tonight: to reach ANOTHER final table (he has a solid track record in PLO events at all buy-ins) – and he reached his goal.

Goal having been reached, Birdman initiated the negotiations for a deal and managed to double up before the discussions bore fruit – but then he hit a wall – a wall named Hadi Bechara.

Joey: 7 of Diamonds Ace of Spades King of Diamonds 5 of Hearts

Hadi: 4 of Spades 8 of Hearts King of Hearts King of Clubs

Board: Jack of Diamonds 3 of Hearts Queen of Clubs 2 of Spades 7 of Spades

    5th place: Joey Boczek, $2,650

    8th place: Agi!

After the deal was reached, players had a single aim: to accumulate as many chips as possible without great risk. The game opened up, and Domenico Agatiello took advantage right off the bat by going all-in only to find a quick call from Chris Arvanitis.

Domenico: King of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 9 of Hearts

Chris: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs 9 of Spades King of Spades

Board: Ace of Spades 2 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 8 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Chris made a set on the flop as well as gaining several interesting draws. Agi had some draws of his own, but the turn and river bricked out for him and Chris won the hand.

    8th place: Domenico Agatiello, $3,545

Event 9 has moved into it’s final 3 tables – and the operation was made more complex than usual by the huge number of tables in action of various kinds tonight! There’s a very popular cash game promo on now called “Really Wicked Wednesday” which both amps up the buzz in the poker room – and overflows cash games into the Tournament Hall – the place is electric!

The remaining players will be on break in a few minutes and we’ll get some detailed chip counts at the time.
