Day 1c of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship!

2016/05/01 - 10:45 by

Day 1c of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship!

Today is the final of 3 starting days in the partypoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship! The final starting day is always by far the busiest, and even 30 minutes before the action gets going, players were starting to assemble outside the Tournament Hall, eager to take their seats and get going on their journey to qualify for Day 2.

From here on out, the tournament is effectively a freezeout, as only one entry is permitted per starting day – so everything is on the line from the minute a player takes his or her seat!

As was the case for Days 1a and 1b, play today will continue through 10 60-minute levels with breaks after every second level. Breaks are 15 minutes each except for the break after level 6, which is a 45-minute long dinner break (free buffet provided for all players). The starting stack is 30,000 tournament chips.

Good luck to everyone playing today!

WPT Canadian Spring Championship Day 1b final counts

Jason Helder

Jason Helder

Day 1a of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship got underway today at 11am and play continued through 10 60-minute levels before the remaining players were asked to count and bag their chips to return to play on Day 2. There were 147 entries in today’s 2nd of 3 starting flights in the tournament, and by the end of the night, 69 remained. These 69 players have all qualified for Day 2.

Any player who entered today’s starting flight in the tournament may also enter the final starting flight (Day 1c) – this is a “next day re-entry” event, meaning that players enter each of the 3 starting flights once.

Note that these are player-recorded chip count totals. The actual chips have been sealed in bags which will be opened by the players to be returned to play on Day 2, which begins at 12:00pm on Monday May 2nd

Mike Leah runs into a monster

  • Level: 6
  • Small Blind: 200
  • Big Blind: 400
  • Ante: 50
  • Chip Average: 40.5K
  • Remaining: 103
  • Entries: 139

  • 2016/04/30 - 17:33 by Playground Poker

Xuan Liu opened the action to 1,000 from middle position, and George Caragiorgas 3bet to 2,500 next to act. Mike Leah came along from the cutoff, and then Mathieu Valade 4bet to 7,500 from the button. All three players completed the raise, and action went 4-handed to the flop.

There were 4 checks on the King of Diamonds 7 of Spades King of Clubs board, and once the turn brought the 8 of Clubs, Mike fired 10,000 after Xuan and George checked. Mathieu made the call and play went heads-up to the river, which was the 10 of Spades. Mike moved all-in, and Mathieu made the quick call.

Mike: 7 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds
Mathieu: King of Spades King of Hearts

Mike flopped sevens full of kings, but was drawing dead from the start to Mathieu’s flopped quads, who earned himself a pot worth a little over 70,000, while Mike was reduced to only 8,000 and change. Xuan seemed happy with her fold, as she apparently let go of pocket aces – from what we overheard on the table.
