There has been a lot of action early but not many big double ups and no eliminations yet. One of the first doubles of the afternoon started with a raise to 90K from utg+1 by Tony Dunst only to run into Joel Miller’s shove for 725K. Tony made the call and the cards were exposed.

Tony: Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts
Joel: 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs

It was a classic flip, but missing the flop (Jack of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 5 of Spades) put Tony well behind and the 2 of Spades 8 of Spades on the turn and river couldn’t reverse the situation. Tony is down to about 1.48M and Joel is now playing a similar stack size.

WPT Canadian Spring Championship Official Final Table!

    2016/05/04 - 19:17 by

Play has concluded for Day 4 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship as the field was whittled down from 16 to start the day to the 6 players remaining in contention for the biggest prizes in the event!

Play will resume tomorrow – May 5th 2016 – at 12:00pm in level 26 (blinds 20K/40K/a5K) with most of the level left to play before blinds go up. Everyone still in the field is guaranteed to win a minimum of $51,400.00 – and the top prize is $256,390.00 – so there’s still a ton to play for tomorrow!

First Name | PrénomLast Name | NomSeat | SiègeStack | Tapis
    SethDaviesSeat 12,170,000
    TonyDunstSeat 21,730,000
    JoelMillerSeat 31,285,000
    RubenPercevalSeat 44,395,000
    GuillaumeNoletSeat 51,125,000
    ThomasTaylorSeat 61,760,000

The chip leader to start the day will be Playground regular Ruben Perceval, who will begin with 4.395M in tournament chips – more than twice as much as his nearest competitor – but the table features a lot of very talented players, so even his chip advantage will in no way make a victory “easy” for Ruben.

Second in chips is Seth Davies, known to many as Setherson2, who is a player with both live and online experience and who Montreal online master Carter Swidler certified as “really really good” in a conversation the other day. He’s a (recent) past SCOOP champion and has published live results dating back to 2010.

Third in chips will be Thomas Taylor, a player coming off a WSOP-C side event victory here in Montreal just a week ago and whose poker friends include all-world pro Mike Leah, among others. Thomas is also an accomplished online player and brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Fourth – less than 1bb behind Thomas – will be Tony Dunst, who is only one of the most recognizable names (and faces) in poker. As a partypoker Ambassador, TV analyst, Raw Deal host and the usual live stream commentator for WPT Events, millions of poker fans know and appreciate Tony’s hard work and insightful comments about the game. But never let it be forgotten that Tony is already a WPT Champion and has scores of live cashes – including quite a few victories – going back over a decade!

Fifth in chips to start the day is Joel Miller, who is a bit of a wild card in the field. Joel has no published live or online cashes – but his play as the tournament has gotten deeper shows that he’s patient and has a solid understanding of the game at this level. Joel won a satellite league among friends to gain his entry in the event, and will have some railbirds on hand tomorrow.

The “small” stack to start the day – though not that small – is Guillaume Nolet, another experienced player who is actually a repeat visitor to a WPT Final Table hosted at Playground Poker Club. Guillaume was 6th in the 2014 WPT Montreal for the biggest live cash of his career. Where he really shines, however, is online – Guillaume was the winner of last years’s WCOOP Main Event for a payday of greater than US$1M.

    Scott McMorran eliminated 7th

    Scott McMorran

Scott McMorran is a little unfortunate to have found himself in a raising war at the wrong moment and has been eliminated in 7th place, with Ruben Perceval the beneficiary of the hand.

Joel Miller got things started with a raise to 90k. Scott responded with a 3bet raise to 275K – only to find Ruben 4bet raise behind him to 675K. Action returned to Joel who simply folded, and Scott decided to push. Ruben made the call.

Scott: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Ruben: Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs

The flop offered no solace to Scott: 7 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts 9 of Hearts and then the 3 of Hearts 10 of Hearts on the turn and river removed all hope. Ruben added well over 1.3M to his stack in the hand and is almost certainly a big chip leader in the tournament.

Scott’s elimination means there are just 6 players left – the official WPT Final Table! We’ll post more information about what to expect including full chip counts a little later this evening.

7th place: Scott James McMorran, $42,860.00

Back to back to back eliminations

    Zheng Wei

And just like that, in less than 10 minutes there have been 3 eliminations from the unofficial final table and the WPT is now just one elimination away from stopping for the day with 6 players remaining.

First to go was Khaly Dang, who found herself all-in holding Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds facing the 10 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds of Ruben Perceval. The run-out of 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts King of Diamonds Jack of Spades 6 of Clubs missed her completely and Ruben’s pocket Tens hold.

    10th place: Khaly Dang, $18,750.00

Next to be eliminated was Rene Fortin – who had been nursing a small stack all day and quite successfully laddering up pay jumps. Laddering up, that is, until he decided to shove with a small pair 5 of Spades 5 of Diamonds. He was called by Thomas Taylor holding Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs and the 6 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs King of Clubs 4 of Spades community cards didn’t change a thing.

    9th place: Rene Fortin, $25,630.00

Last to go was the most unlucky of the bunch. Wei Zheng was short-stacked since Tony Dunst cracked his pocket Ace of Hearts Ace of Spades with 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades by spiking a 9 of Hearts on the river and stacking almost 800K of Wei’s erstwhile stack. Ever patient, however, he waited for his spots – doubled up once – and finally pushed with 9 of Hearts 9 of Spades and found a call from Seth Davies holding 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts.

The flop was safe enough: King of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 2 of Hearts as was the Queen of Spades on the turn. The 6 of Spades on the river brought out a gasp from the table as Wei had gotten super unlucky twice in a half hour and was eliminated from the tournament.

    8th place: Zheng Wei, $34,180.00

Action has been extremely slow on this final table and there have been no eliminations and very few noteworthy hands during this past level. That seems likely to change, though, as three players currently find themselves with very short stacks. Zheng Wei, Rene Fortin, and Khaly Dang are all now at the point where they’re going to be put to the test as often as possible.

    Final table – full counts

The remaining 10 players have just taken their break while tournament staff have removed the yellow T1000 chips and we were able to refresh the chip counts for everyone during the time.

The current chip leader is Scott McMorran, with Seth Davies and Ruben Perceval following closely behind.

The official WPT Final Table always starts with 6 players remaining but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a 9-handed tournament, which means that the players must be brought together on the final table with 10 players remaining. There has been a full seating redraw to put this table together, and the players have now taken their seats and play has resumed in the tournament. Level 24 will end in under 5 minutes, at which time there will be a break and we will refresh the counts for all players.

Here is the new seating order:

    Lavallée out in 11th place

Jason Lavallée has hit the rail in 11th place, having lost his final hand to Joel Miller. Jason was in the bb in the hand, and Joel raised to 50K which was met with a quick shove from Jason for approximately 570K in chips. Joel called and the cards were revealed.

Jason: 3 of Spades 3 of Hearts
Joel: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Hearts

The flop had no solutions to Jason’s problem – in fact, it only propelled Joel further into the lead: 9 of Spades Queen of Clubs King of Clubs and the turn 8 of Hearts led to a meaningless Jack of Clubs on the river.

    11th place, Jason Lavallée, $18,750.00

    Nguyen 13th, Gill 12th

Ha Van Nguyen and Rene Fortin have both been relatively short for most of the day, but sitting side-by-side, have been able to avoid playing too many pots together. That ended just now as Rene shoved and after some grimacing and gesticulating by Ha, he found a call.

Rene: Queen of Spades Jack of Hearts
Ha: 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades

The flop brought nothing for Rene: 7 of Diamonds King of Hearts King of Spades, but the turn Jack of Spades was just what he needed and the blank on the river sent Ha to the tournament desk to pick up his payout coupon.

While we were paying attention to the hand on table 39, Harpreet Singh Gill was being eliminated from table 40.
