Samuel Bisrat Tsehai exits in 27th; Francois Goulet places 26th

    Samuel Bisrat Tsehai

Following a late-position open from Ruben Perceval, Samuel Bisrat Tsehai 3bet shoved his almost 200,000 stack in from the button. Antonio Esfandiari quickly moved all-in for under from the big blind, and Ruben got out of the way.

Samuel: Ace of Clubs 4 of Clubs
Antonio: Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs

Board: 3 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds 6 of Spades 8 of Clubs

Antonio doubled his stack up to over 200,000, while Samuel’s was cut in half. We missed the hand, but Samuel was eliminated not long afterwards.

    27th place: Samuel Bisrat Tsehai – $9,050.00

On another table, Fancois Goulet was all-in preflop and flipping, as his Ace of Clubs Queen of Hearts shove was called by Brian Altman and his 7 of Spades 7 of Diamonds. Francois failed to improve on the board and made his exit in 26th place.

    Altman hangs around

    Brian Altman

    Brian Altman

    Brian Altman

Brian Altman continues his deep run in this WPT Canadian Spring Championship, and after finding himself on the losing side of a few pots to start his Day 3, he saw his stack drop to just over 10bb.

Sitting under the gun, he slid forward his last 112,000 chips, and found a call from Khaly Dang in late position. The rest of the table got out of the way as the two took a walk to the flop.

Brian: 10 of Spades 10 of Hearts
Khaly: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs

Brian’s pair held on the King of Clubs 2 of Spades 2 of Hearts Queen of Spades Jack of Hearts board to keep him in the running, and his run for a second big event title this week here in Montreal is still alive. In addition to winning the WSOP-Circuit Main Event just 2 days ago, Brian was also part of the WPT Montreal final table last Fall here at Playground Poker Club, placing 4th out of 697 entries.

    Redraw – 27 players remain

With 3 more recent eliminations, the field in the WPT Canadian Spring Championship is now down to the final 3 tables, with 27 players remaining.

    Rodney Ramalho

    Rodney Ramalho

Doug Hartwick made a deep run in this Main Event, but was eliminated in 30th place.

Jason Fernandes found himself in a tough spot, as all his chips went in the middle on a flop showing Jack of Clubs 10 of Spades 5 of Clubs. His Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds were the best hand at the time, however Ronald Laplante caught the flush with his King of Clubs 10 of Clubs as the running cards brought a 9 of Clubs and a Ace of Spades, leading to Jason’s exit in 29th place.

Rodney Ramalho tabled Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts when he called the preflop 3bet all-in of Harpreet Singh Gill, who held Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds, and lost most of his stack on the hand. He was left with 3bb after the hand, and was eliminated on the very next hand, brining the field down to 3 final tables.

There is now a redraw taking place, and below you will find the new seating assignments for the final 27 players:

3 more players hit the rail

    Amir Babakhani

Three more players have been eliminated in the last few hands. First we lost Robert Williams in 33rd place, and he was followed by chip-leader to start the day Damjan Radanov, who had a rocky Day 3 leading to his elimination.

Next to go was Amir Babakhani, who called a 65K 3bet from Scott James McMorran in the blinds after opening from late position. When the flop brought the 8 of Clubs 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts, Scott lead for 50K, and Amir moved in for 190K. Scott made a quick call and hands were tabled:

Scott: King of Hearts King of Diamonds
Amir: Queen of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds

The turn 10 of Hearts and river 6 of Clubs brought no change in the hand, as Scott added some more ammunition to his armory.

    Update on chip counts

The players have just taken their first break in Day 3 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, and we took this time to find out who the big stacks are. The table below represents the chip leaders as play enters level 20.

In the hand before the break, Ruben Perceval eliminated Ivan Fazal Karim to put him amongst the leaders. He raised to 19K from the cutoff, and Ivan followed from the button. On a 7 of Clubs 6 of Clubs 5 of Hearts board, Ruben led for 25K, and then called Ivan’s raise to 75K. When the turn brought and off-suit King, he checked the action to his opponent, who pushed for around 90K. Ruben made the call, and found that his A7 was the best hand, as Ivan tabled a pocket pair of 3s. The river brought no change and Ivan was eliminated in 34th place, collecting $7,900.oo along the way.

    Mosur and Plante out

Two more players have hit the rail in the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, as Kent Mosur placed 36th and Jeanrene Plante 35th, both collecting $7,900.00.

Jeanrene lost a good part of his stack to Marcello Rosa before finding a small double up versus Damjan Radanov a few hands later (where he flopped a set with 7 of Hearts 7 of Spades versus Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs). That pot brought him back up to nearly 100K when he decided to open from early position. Jason Lavallee put the pressure on by moving in from the small blind, and Jeanrene went into the tank.

“Ça n’a pas l’aire de te tenter” said Jason while Jeanrene was in the tank.

Eventually though, Jeanrene slid forward his stack and found himself in some trouble.

Jason: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs
Jeanrene: 5 of Spades 5 of Clubs

Board: 3 of Hearts Jack of Clubs King of Hearts 6 of Diamonds 4 of Spades

With no help on the board, Jeanrene made his exit.

We just witnessed an amazing hand between Samuel Tsehai and Guillaume Nolet, the result of which was Guillaume doubling through Samuel.

We arrived on the flop with just the two players still in the hand: 2 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 4 of Spades. Samuel bet 50K and Guillaume made the call. The turn paired the board again – 4 of Diamonds and Samuel again bet 50K. This time Guillaume went in the tank to consider all of the options. Eventually he put out nine blue chips and 5 yellows to add up to 50K for the call.

The river was the 10 of Hearts, and Samuel didn’t take long to shove – but found an insta-call from Guillaume, who tabled 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs for a full house – though he almost certainly didn’t need 10 of Hearts at all. We missed Samuel’s hole cards when they were tabled (they were quickly mucked).

Update: We learned a little later that Samuel was bluffing the entire way with Jack high, and Guillaume’s understanding of Sam’s range excluded most combos containing a deuce or a 4. In other words, Guillaume had the read cold the whole way.

Hartwick doubles through Dunst; Gross out 44th

Doug Hartwick started the day with a stack on the small side – 102,000 – but he has just doubled through Tony Dunst to keep his tournament alive.

Brian Altman opened the action with a raise to 17K, and Tony called from the button. Doug then pushed his ~80K stack (he had lost some chips early) over the top. Brian folded and Tony called. The hands were tabled.

Doug: Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds
Tony: King of Spades 10 of Spades

The flop had a little of what Tony needed: Queen of Spades 5 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs but the 6 of Hearts 6 of Clubs on the turn and river weren’t helpful and Doug stacked the chips.

While we were reporting on that hand, Jeff Gross and Poorya Nazari were eliminated in 44th and 43rd place, respectively.
