Marc-Olivier Carpentier-Perrault is a talented local player who has had a lot of success both online and live, but he started the day with just 6,500 in chips. He also started the day on a table (Table 56) with 2 other short-stacked players, a situation that can often be beneficial – but can also be dangerous.

Through 3/4 of the first level played today, Marc-Olivier has managed to build his tiny stack into over 42,000 tournament chips – still nowhere near the leaders, but definitely healthy enough to really get started.

In his most recent double-up (and then some), Jeanrene Plante raised in early position to 3K and found calls from both Ronald Lauzon and Ronald Laplante. Marc-Olivier then raised all-in – getting a fold from Jeanrene, an all-in over the top from Ronald Lauzon and a fold from Ronald Laplante.

    Marc-Olivier: 7 of Clubs 7 of Spades
Ronald Lauzon: Ace of Spades Ace of Hearts

The flop was perfect for Marc-Olivier: Jack of Clubs 7 of Diamonds Queen of Spades and the 8 of Clubs and 2 of Clubs that followed did nothing to “un-crack” Ronald’s Aces.

Some of the early eliminations today:

    • Paul Scott
    • Theodore Doukas
    • Will Molson
    • Xuan Liu
    • Paolo Cusinato

Welcome to Day 2 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship!

The dealer meeting is over, dealers have taken their seats, floors are poised and ready for the action to begin, and now the 180 players in action for today’s Day 2 restart are taking their seats in the Tournament Hall… everything is set for Day 2 action to begin!

The chip leader today is local pro Jiachen Gong who is in the midst of a year-long tournament breakthrough in his career – and starting with almost 20K more than his nearest opponent may just give him the lift he needs to threaten a deep run.

That being said, however, the field is full of experienced and talented players, pros and amateurs alike! Also found in the top 15 chip leaders to start the day are Tony Dunst, former WPT Canadian Spring Champion Amir Babakhani, and Jason Lavallée, as well as players like Josue Sauvageau who have all the talent in the world but more of a local reputation.

The chip average to start today is 69.5K and with blinds starting at 600/1,200/a200, even a player with an average stack is 58bb deep. Play today will continue through 9 60-minute levels.

Action will resume in just seconds – good luck to everyone playing today!

    Brian Altman

    Brian Altman

The last break of Day 1c has just been completed, and the T25 chips have been removed from play. With only 2 levels left to the day, it is Ronald Laplante who has taken over the chip lead, sitting on over 140K.

The most recent player to join the field is Brian Altman, who is fresh from a victory in the Montreal WSOP-C Main Event – and by fresh, we mean a matter of minutes! He arranged to have his stack purchased at the dinner break, and was blinded out while he was wrapping up his victory. He arrived at the tables during the break before level 9 to find 22,500 chips waiting for him, and is now in action in this final flight of the WPT CSC.

Below is a look at the leaderboard as play enters level 9:

I called clock on someone @WPT @PlaygroundPoker. Dealer didn’t call floor, he started countdown on his own. Bravo! https://t.co/gNXpFzTBCE

First of all, thanks for the great shout-out! Second, it’s worth sharing the following information from our Event FAQ:

Does Playground Poker Club have any “house rules” that players should be aware of before playing in an event?

There is one procedure that players should be aware of that is slightly different than the procedure in many other tournaments. Playground Poker Club dealers are trained and empowered to administer a called clock. If a player calls for a clock on another player, the dealer will immediately assess whether the request is appropriate and, if so, will begin the 60-second countdown.
Players will be notified when 30 seconds have elapsed and, once 50 seconds have elapsed, the dealer will begin a verbal countdown of the final 10 seconds. At the end of the 60 seconds, the player’s hand is dead.
In our experience, this procedure removes some of the stigma of calling the clock in tournament play and contributes to the maintenance of a healthy pace of tournament play.

At Playground Poker Club we are aware that not everyone agrees that this is the best policy, but our experience with this approach – and the ongoing training and evaluation we give our dealers – has made it a great success. In fact, for local players this is the norm and is not even a little bit controversial.

Players should also keep in mind that floor staff are never far away, and when they see that a clock is being administered, they go to the table immediately to supervise.

    Midway through level 8

    Xiao Peng and Azim Popatia

We are midway through level 8, and the starting field of 191 of Day 1c has been reduced to 123 players. Play is now 9-handed and will remain so until the final table of 10 players.

Following this level will be a short chip-up break, during which we will bring an update on the leaderboard. Sheraz Nasir was eliminated in the last level, and as he was our 2015 WPT CSC champion, the door is now open for a new champion to be crowned! Other recent eliminations include Alexandre Lavigne, Stan Jablonski and Michael Dentale, while Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Mike Leah made their exits early in this flight.
