Play will resume in level 23 when the blinds will be 10,000/20,000 with a 3,000 chip ante. The blind levels will continue to be 90 minutes in length and play will continue until just 6 players remain. There will be a full seating redraw at 10 players remaining – these players will be brought together on the unofficial final table of 10 players and play will continue through 4 more eliminations. At that point, the remaining players will bag their chips to return for Day 5 on the Live Streamed final table.

There was just a seating redraw at 18 players remaining, so the restart tomorrow will begin with the players in their same relative positions as the end of Day 3. As a reminder, the following is the official seating chart with 2 tables remaining as well as the end of Day 3 chip counts for each player.

    Day 3 is a wrap!

    2016/05/03 - 20:16 by

    Day 3 is a wrap!

After 4 45-minute levels and 28 eliminations, Day 3 of the partypoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship is over and the 16 remaining players have bagged their chips to return to play on Day 4, tomorrow (May 4th, 2016) at 12:00pm.

Day 3 was action-packed and saw the elimination of the big stack to start the day (Damjan Radanov), a rising star of the Montreal poker scene (Rodney Ramalho), the 2nd all-time money winner (Antonio Esfandiari), a former WPT Canadian Spring Champion (Amir Babakhani), a player that made it to Day 3 despite starting Day 2 with just 11K in chips (Marc Guerbilsky), and several other up-and-coming stars of the game.

Day 4 is certain to be just as exciting, as the field is still chock full of amazingly talented poker players. The chip leader to start the day is Seth Davies (1,998,000 chips), aka Setherson2, who reputable sources (@cswidler) tell us is an online beast – and his live resume is pretty buff as well. The 2nd spot on the leaderboard is occupied by none other than Jason Lavallée (@constantcolorup, 1,101,000 chips) who was one of the first Montreal-based online pros to make a breakthrough in live play almost a decade ago, and even has a 2nd place finish in a WPT event in 2009 to prove it (not to overlook is EPT results, which include a High Roller win and a Main Event win).

And then there’s Brian Altman (1,005,000 chips). Brian Altman, who may just want to emigrate to Montreal if he keeps having gaudy results here, like his 4th place in the most recent WPT Montreal and his Main Event win this weekend in a local WSOP-C stop. The main mitigating factor is that he’s been booking solid results everywhere he plays over the past 2 years – it’s clearly not just a Montreal thing for Brian!

And those are just the top 3. How about local hero – in the midst of a tournament breakthrough – Ruben Perceval (907,000 chips), or the always dangerous @Bond18, Tony Dunst (937,000 chips)? The remaining field in this year’s WPT Canadian Spring Championship is stacked from top to bottom – which means that tomorrow on Day 4 we’re in for a real treat as the tournament winds its way down to the Official 6 person WPT Final Table.

Play resumes at 12pm on May 4th.

    Helder doubles twice through Assaff

Jason Helder just got the best of Nabil Assaff in two almost back-to-back hands to jump up the leaderboard.

In the first hand, Jason doubled his 30K-and-change stack preflop with pocket Kings versus the AK of Nabil. Moments later, the two players were involved in a 3-way pot where Alessandro Bordonaro lead out 4K (into a 10K pot) on a 7 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds board. Jason flat called the bet, and Nabil, who covered both players with his 75K stack, pushed all-in over the top from the button. Alessandro mucked his hand, while Jason quickly threw in some chips to announce a call.

Jason: 5 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds
Nabil: 10 of Hearts 7 of Hearts

Nabil was drawing fairly slim versus the flopped straight of his opponent, and the running King of Clubs and 5 of Spades brought him no help. Jason slid forward 67,700 to be doubled up, plus received what was already in the pot, putting him amongst the chip leaders here in level 11 of the Second Chance Event.

Nabil was left with a few big blinds, and was eliminated on the next hand of play.

Tu Kien Luong fell short-stacked, and in an unopened pot he pulled the trigger from middle position with a respectable Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts. Jason Lavallee was next to act and woke up with a much bigger hand, King of Spades King of Hearts, and made the call. With no improvement on the board, Tu Kien was our 17th place finisher.

Delgrasso and Noor’s eliminations brings us to a redraw – 17 players left

    Michael Noor

Marcello Delgrasso might wind up thinking about his final hands in the WPT Canadian Spring Championship over and over again, as two unfortunate hands lead to his elimination.

In the first hand, he opened to 38,000 from the button, and Brian Altman clicked-it-back from the small blind. Rene Fortin then 4bet shoved from the big blind for 105,000, leading to Marcello folding. Brian made the quick call for a few thousand more, and as players tabled their hands Marcello flashed his folded cards – AJ-offsuit.

Brian: King of Hearts 6 of Clubs
Rene: 9 of Spades 10 of Spades

Board: 8 of Spades 10 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts

Much to the disgust of Marcello, who folded what would have been the winning hand, Rene found a doubled up worth around 250,000. It is no surprise then that on the very next hand Marcello was not willing to let go of his hand, especially as he was dealt AJ-offsuit once again!. He found himself all-in versus Brian Altman, who had the goods this time.

Marcello: Ace of Hearts Jack of Clubs
Brian: Queen of Clubs Queen of Hearts

Board: 6 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds King of Hearts 10 of Spades

With Marcello’s elimination, this Main Event is now down to 2 final tables, and a redraw was called for. While the other tables were playing their last hand before the redraw, we lost Michael Noor, who ended his deep run in 18th place.
