Zheng Wei lost a few chips following the dinner break before taking a big pot versus Antonio Esfandiari to put him back in the driver seat.

Antonio opened to 12,000 from middle position, and Rene Fortin came along for the ride from the button. Zheng 3bet to 35,000 from the big blind, finding a call only from Antonio. First to act, Zheng checked on the 10 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds board, and called Antonio’s 33,000 chip bet. He then lead out for 50,000 on the Queen of Spades turn, and Antonio completed. On the 4 of Clubs river, Zheng lead out once again, this time for 117,000. Antonio cut out the chips, gave a little speech and slid the call forward, only to run into the stone-cold nuts as Zheng tabled Ace of Spades King of Diamonds for broadway.

With that pot Zheng climbed up to around 650,000.

With 59 players left in the field, we are now only 5 eliminations away from being in the money.

    Welcome to Lucky Event 13

Tonight in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net it’s Event 13, a $500 + $500 NL Hold’em Freeze. Players start with 25,000 chips and the blinds will go up every 20 minutes. As the name “Freeze” indicates, there are no rebuys or re-entries in this tourney, so players must play with care from the beginning of the event. That being said, playing too carefully will bring its own problems…

We’re expecting a good mix of visiting players and Playground regulars in this tournament, which will also include players of varying levels of skill and experience. It’s a recipe for a dynamic and very fun tournament – with a pretty great prize pool to boot!

The tournament got underway at 7pm and late registration is available through the first 6 20-minute levels tonight.

    Good luck on the felts!

    9 tables remain

    Antonio Esfandiari

Day 2 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship is down to 9 tables, and as play is 9-handed the field is just 81 players large. The plan for today is to play down until we have reached the money, which is the top 54 players. We are currently nearing the middle of level 16, and following this level will be the 45-minute dinner break – during which we will bring a detailed update on chip counts.

Steve Kerr was one of the players who cashed on Day 2 of the Montreal WSOP-C Main Event and made it to Playground to join Day 1b at the end of late registration, and in the 4 levels that were left to him, he managed to build up a nice large stack to start today. Unfortunately things never really got moving for Steve today, and finally he was eliminated by Sam Tsehai.

We missed the action, only arriving at the table when Steve was all-in and got the call from Sam.

Steve: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts
Sam: Jack of Hearts Jack of Clubs

The flop wasn’t a total disaster for Steve, but it was close: 10 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 7 of Clubs. The turn 6 of Diamonds and river 8 of Hearts couldn’t save him – and he hit the rail.

Other recent eliminations include Scott Shelvock, Jiachen Gong, and Dean Murphy. There are still 82 players left – just 28 off the money bubble.
