Final Table of the Seniors’ Event

    Majid Khajed Hosseini

It took a long time for Event 11 to reach the final table, as it seemed the short stack was always the one winning the pot. 4 levels of play passed from when the tourney was in-the-money at 16 players to the final 10, resulting in a very shallow average-stack of 7 big blinds. A few eliminations should give the players more room to manoeuvre, and we should be seeing some in the near future given the stack sizes.

Majid Khajed Hosseini is the current chip leader as he starts the final table with nearly 750,000. There is a scheduled break in 10 minutes, during which we will bring an update on the chip counts.

Here is a look at who has made the final table of our Seniors’ Event:

Hand-for-hand had just come into effect when Nicola Basile was sitting on the (second) nuts on a flop of 8 of Hearts Jack of Hearts Queen of Hearts. His opponent Jacques Villeneuve moved-in on him, and Nicola made the quick call to table Ace of Hearts King of Hearts. Jacques tabled Ace of Spades Queen of Spades and was drawing very thin, and with 6 of Hearts and 5 of Spades as the running cards, Nicola scooped the pot to bring Event 11 into the money!

    Congratulations!

The Seniors’ Event is down to just 30 players of the 151 that began the night, and with 16 places scheduled to be paid, the pressure of making it in the money will likely be taking an effect on the remaining players.

Denis Scott continues to lead the field, and has grown his stack to over 325,000. Mazeltov has jumped into second place with a stack of around 225,000, while Kim Kilroy is making her presence felt as she sits on nearly 200,000. Nicola Basile slipped down the leaderboard following last break, however has just recently knocked a player out bringing him up near 190,000 in chips.

    Josue Sauvageau

    Josue Sauvageau

Day 1a of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship got underway today at 11am and play continued through 10 60-minute levels before the remaining players were asked to count and bag their chips to return to play on Day 2. There were 79 entries in today’s first of three starting flights in the tournament, and by the end of the night, 27 remained.

Any player who entered today’s starting flight in the tournament may re-enter in a subsequent starting flight – this is a “next day re-entry” event, meaning that players enter each of the 3 starting flights once. Day 2 will begin at 12:00pm on Monday May 2nd.

Note that these are player-recorded chip count totals. The actual chips have been sealed in bags which will be opened by the players to be returned to play on Day 2.
