Jean-François Methot out in 3rd place

Jean-François Methot kept a low profile throughout the tournament, staying near the chip average or just below – and that’s where he began when the final table came together. His final hand came quickly and we weren’t able to capture the details – but he had managed to ladder up all the way to 3rd in the tournament.

    3rd place: Jean-François Methot, $2,975

    Event: Spring Classic

    Event 7 Champion: Jeffrey Cormier

    2016/04/28 - 3:21 by Playground Poker

    Event 7 Champion: Jeffrey Cormier

Event 7 in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net was a new addition to the series, as it took our regular 50/50 Bounty format and super-sized the buy-in, making it a $500 + $100 + $500 NL Hold’em Bounty Event. Every knockout was worth $500 cash, and players were evidently out on the hunt for these precious chips, generating a ton of action on the tables.

The “Bounty-Hunter” of the day was Daniel Hughes, who cashed in 10 Bounty chips along with placing 8th place on the final table, although Jeffrey Cormier was close with 9 of his own.

Once the tournament reached the final table, play somewhat tightened up as the top prize of $20,000 was well worth playing your best for. Jeffrey got hit with the deck in the early stages of the final table, and amassed a massive chip-lead stack after getting paid on back-to-back hands with pockets kings in the hole. He carried his chip lead into 5-way action, where Brian Morgan took over as top stack. Once play fell 3-handed, the chip lead was shifted to Daniel Whalen, and at this point the final 3 negotiated an ICM based chip-chop. Daniel took home the larger share of the chop, but all three players were well-compensated for their deep-run. The tournament required an extra $1,700 to be set aside along with the Playground Poker Spring Classic Champion’s Trophy, and so play continued after the agreement.

Brian was quickly eliminated, and heads-up play between Daniel and Jeffrey went on for almost 2 levels of play. Although they started even in chips, Daniel chipped his way into a 2-to-1 lead before seeing the stacks flip when he ran his 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds into Jeffrey’s Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs. Jeffrey then began applying pressure on his opponent, until finally Daniel open-shoved with 5 of Clubs 7 of Clubs, to get called by Queen of Spades 10 of Clubs. Daniel couldn’t improve on the board, and Jeffrey was crowned our Event 7 Champion!

    Congratulations!

    Event 7 Champion: Jeffrey Cormier – $16,520.00 (+ 9 Bounty chips)

    Event 7 Runer-Up: Daniel Whalen – $15,430.00 (+ 7 Bounty chips)

Event 7 in the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker.net was a $500 + $100 + $500 NL Hold’em 50/50 Bounty tournament that began on April 27, 2016, at 11am. By the time late reg was over there were 176 players in the tournament, adding up to a prize pool of $85,360.00, which was distributed according to the following table.

Note that a portion of each player’s buy-in is represented by a $500 bounty chip. These bounty chips are an important component of the overall prizing in the event but are not centrally tracked. Also, there was a deal reached with 3 players remaining to reserve $1,700 and the Champion’s trophy for the winner and to distribute the rest of the prize pool via ICM chop. This agreement is reflected in the payout table.

Chris Arvanitis regularly makes deep runs in big events and tonight was no exception. By the time he made the final table, he had a huge stack and covered almost everyone at the table – but all was for nought has he lost the chips in two hands against Hadi Bechara that cost him the tournament.

The first hand found all chips bet on the flop.

Chris: Queen of Hearts 7 of Diamonds Ace of Spades King of Diamonds

Hadi: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs Jack of Clubs

Board: 4 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades 5 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds

And then a few hands later:

Chris: King of Spades Jack of Spades 10 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Hadi: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds 6 of Clubs Ace of Clubs

Board: 2 of Clubs Queen of Hearts 3 of Spades 5 of Spades Ace of Clubs

Hadi eliminated several players from the final table – ironically, the bounty tournament was being played just one table over.

    4th place: Chris Arvanitis, $5,350

    Birdman finishes 5th

    Joey Boczek

Joey Birdman Boczek is a visiting player – but such a regular visitor he’s considered by most to be a local – and a talented local at that! Full of personality, Joey is usually among the chattiest players around, and it’s always fun to play with him. His goal tonight: to reach ANOTHER final table (he has a solid track record in PLO events at all buy-ins) – and he reached his goal.

Goal having been reached, Birdman initiated the negotiations for a deal and managed to double up before the discussions bore fruit – but then he hit a wall – a wall named Hadi Bechara.

Joey: 7 of Diamonds Ace of Spades King of Diamonds 5 of Hearts

Hadi: 4 of Spades 8 of Hearts King of Hearts King of Clubs

Board: Jack of Diamonds 3 of Hearts Queen of Clubs 2 of Spades 7 of Spades

    5th place: Joey Boczek, $2,650

    8th place: Agi!

After the deal was reached, players had a single aim: to accumulate as many chips as possible without great risk. The game opened up, and Domenico Agatiello took advantage right off the bat by going all-in only to find a quick call from Chris Arvanitis.

Domenico: King of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 9 of Hearts

Chris: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs 9 of Spades King of Spades

Board: Ace of Spades 2 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 8 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds

Chris made a set on the flop as well as gaining several interesting draws. Agi had some draws of his own, but the turn and river bricked out for him and Chris won the hand.

    8th place: Domenico Agatiello, $3,545
