    Scott McMorran eliminated 7th

    Scott McMorran

Scott McMorran is a little unfortunate to have found himself in a raising war at the wrong moment and has been eliminated in 7th place, with Ruben Perceval the beneficiary of the hand.

Joel Miller got things started with a raise to 90k. Scott responded with a 3bet raise to 275K – only to find Ruben 4bet raise behind him to 675K. Action returned to Joel who simply folded, and Scott decided to push. Ruben made the call.

Scott: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Ruben: Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs

The flop offered no solace to Scott: 7 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts 9 of Hearts and then the 3 of Hearts 10 of Hearts on the turn and river removed all hope. Ruben added well over 1.3M to his stack in the hand and is almost certainly a big chip leader in the tournament.

Scott’s elimination means there are just 6 players left – the official WPT Final Table! We’ll post more information about what to expect including full chip counts a little later this evening.

7th place: Scott James McMorran, $42,860.00

Back to back to back eliminations

    Zheng Wei

And just like that, in less than 10 minutes there have been 3 eliminations from the unofficial final table and the WPT is now just one elimination away from stopping for the day with 6 players remaining.

First to go was Khaly Dang, who found herself all-in holding Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds facing the 10 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds of Ruben Perceval. The run-out of 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts King of Diamonds Jack of Spades 6 of Clubs missed her completely and Ruben’s pocket Tens hold.

    10th place: Khaly Dang, $18,750.00

Next to be eliminated was Rene Fortin – who had been nursing a small stack all day and quite successfully laddering up pay jumps. Laddering up, that is, until he decided to shove with a small pair 5 of Spades 5 of Diamonds. He was called by Thomas Taylor holding Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs and the 6 of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs King of Clubs 4 of Spades community cards didn’t change a thing.

    9th place: Rene Fortin, $25,630.00

Last to go was the most unlucky of the bunch. Wei Zheng was short-stacked since Tony Dunst cracked his pocket Ace of Hearts Ace of Spades with 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades by spiking a 9 of Hearts on the river and stacking almost 800K of Wei’s erstwhile stack. Ever patient, however, he waited for his spots – doubled up once – and finally pushed with 9 of Hearts 9 of Spades and found a call from Seth Davies holding 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts.

The flop was safe enough: King of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 2 of Hearts as was the Queen of Spades on the turn. The 6 of Spades on the river brought out a gasp from the table as Wei had gotten super unlucky twice in a half hour and was eliminated from the tournament.

    8th place: Zheng Wei, $34,180.00

    Ari Engel

Ari Engel opened to 27K from under the gun, and was met with a 3bet to 85K fro Richard in the big blind. With a stack just shy of 300K, Ari elected to 4bet shoved, and he found a quick call.

Ari: Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Richard: King of Spades King of Hearts

Board: 9 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs Jack of Hearts 9 of Spades 8 of Hearts

Richard’s bigger pocket pair won him the hand, and he added some more ammunition to his chip-lead stack. He now holds 1.7 million, which is more than half of the chips in play.

    4th place: Ari Engel – $16,510.00

Richard placed a raise to 24K from the cutoff, and Jason Helder 3bet all-in from the button. Ari folded the small blind, and Benny asked for a count. The dealer cut out the chips and announced 283K, and Benny threw in a calling chip while Richard mucked his hand.

Jason: 9 of Spades 9 of Clubs

Benny paired-up on the 8 of Hearts Queen of Hearts 2 of Spades 10 of Spades 5 of Clubs board to earn him a few extra hundred thousand chips.

Action has been extremely slow on this final table and there have been no eliminations and very few noteworthy hands during this past level. That seems likely to change, though, as three players currently find themselves with very short stacks. Zheng Wei, Rene Fortin, and Khaly Dang are all now at the point where they’re going to be put to the test as often as possible.

    Patrick St-Onge

Patrick St-Onge was being very patient with his last chips, but once his stack dropped to just 51,000, he felt he had to go with the small ace he was dealt. He moved in from early position, and Benny Chen completed the call from the small blind to go heads-up in the hand.

Patrick: Ace of Clubs 6 of Spades
Benny: King of Clubs Queen of Clubs

Board: Jack of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 5 of Spades King of Diamonds

Benny picked up a pair on the river to score knockout, and Event 14 is now down to 6 players. There is a break in a few minutes, and we will update the chip counts at that point.

“The River-Man” was what Kathy Sawers jokingly called her table-opponent Richard Edwin Mask, after calling a big 230K bet on the river with a board showing Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts 5 of Clubs Ace of Hearts 3 of Hearts. She tabled Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs for three-of-a-kind, however Richard tabled 3 of Spades 3 of Diamonds for a rivered full house.

Kathy was left with around 200K after the hand, while Richard chipped up to over 1.1 million.

    El-Khouri springs up the leaderboard

    Paul El-Khouri

In only a few hands, Paul El-Khouri has gone from short-stacked to one of the leaders here on this final table of The Second Chance. After doubling through Benny Chen with Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds over King of Spades King of Hearts, he chipped up before finding another big double-up.

He opened to 18K from under the gun, and Jason Helder called in position. Heads-up on the flop, Paul fired 27K after the dealer rung out 2 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds. Jason made the call, and they went to the 10 of Diamonds turn. This time Paul checked his option, and called the 45K bet Jason threw out. When the river brought the 2 of Diamonds, putting a 4th diamond on board, Paul checked again. Jason put the pressure on by announcing all-in, but Paul made a quick confident call.

Jason flashed King of Hearts Jack of Spades for jacks-up, and Paul tabled the winning King of Spades King of Diamonds for a king-high flush, earning him a pot of nearly 600K.
