Tony Dunst has made a very timely double up to vault him to over 1.3M in chips.

Zheng Wei opened the action to 55K from the cutoff and Jason Lavallée called from the button. Action move to Tony in the big blind and he chose to shove his 628K stack. Zheng folded and Jason thought, then cut out calling chips, then thought some more… and made the call.

Tony: Ace of Spades King of Spades
Jason: Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts

The board ran out 9 of Hearts King of Diamonds 3 of Spades King of Clubs 6 of Diamonds and the dealer shipped the chips over to Tony.

El-Khouri scores a double elimination; Assouline and Tang miss the final table

    Samuel Robert Phillips

We missed the exact action, but we arrived at the table to see Paul El-Khouri scooping the chips of two opponents, Samuel Robert Phillips and Yannick Gauthier, as he picked up a set of jacks along the way in a 3-way all-in pre-flop hand.

We saw Yannick get crippled the hand just before this one, as his 9 of Hearts 9 of Spades were second best to Richard Edwin Mask’s Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs, forcing him to pay out 70,500 and leaving him with a few chips behind.

On the other table, Kathy Sawers got the best of David Assouline to knock him out in 12th place. Shortly after, Ian Tang found his last several big blinds in the middle pre-flop, and was faced with 3 opponents! On the 3 of Spades 6 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds flop, Ari Engel fired 50K into the pot (which hovered around 140K), and Linda Huard raised him to 125K. Kathy folded her hand, and after a long moment in the tank, Ari also gave way. Linda tabled Jack of Hearts Jack of Clubs, and Ian tabled a trailing Ace of Hearts 5 of Hearts, which failed to improve with the running 2 of Hearts 3 of Hearts.

With those 4 eliminations, the Second Chance has now reached the final table of 10 players. There will be a break in a few short minutes, during which we will bring an update on the chip counts.

Josue Sauvageau did a good job of chipping up early but found his chips in the middle holding a made flush on the river – only to find that Seth Davies (who had shoved over top of Josue’s open on the river) had the same flush but to the nuts.

    15th place: Stephen James Anger

    Stephen James Anger

Stephen James Anger came into the day as one of the shorter stacks, and waiting patiently for a spot to make his move. He picked up enough blinds and antes to get him past through the money-bubble, and once the tournament fell to 15 players, he found a strong ace on the button in an unopened pot. He fired his last 36,500, and David Assouline isolated from the small blind.

Stephen: Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts
David: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts

Board: 8 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts King of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds

Stephen’s ace-high was out-kicked by his opponent, leading to his elimination in 15th place.

When the tournament fell to 2 tables, Jordan saw a large portion of his stack get shifted to his table-opponent Paul El-Khouri, after a raising war occurred between the two players pre-flop. When all was said and done, both players tabled their hands, and Paul had a huge lead with King of Spades King of Diamonds over the Ace of Clubs King of Clubs of Jordan. The board brought no change to the hand, and Jordan had to pay out 147,500 in the hand, leaving him with just a few blinds behind.

Fast forward a few hands, and with a small ace in his hands, Jordan decided to move-in in an unopened pot, finding a call from Benny Chen in the big blind.

Jordan: Ace of Spades 3 of Hearts
Benny: 4 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds

Board: King of Diamonds King of Hearts 2 of Diamonds Queen of Spades 8 of Hearts

Jordan couldn’t catch-up to Benny’s pair, and was eliminated on the bubble of this Second Chance Event.

Congratulations to the 15 players who are now in the money!

Early Day 1 chip-leader Kevin O’Donnell was a short stack when he opened to 9K from late-position. Benny Chen defended his big blind, and they took a walk to first street. Benny checked the 7 of Diamonds: Js 4 of Clubs board, and Kevin fired 8K. Benny replied with a check-raise to 20K, and then quickly called off the 55K all-in from Kevin.

Kevin: 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs
Benny: 7 of Spades 8 of Spades

With no improvements on the King of Hearts 3 of Spades board, Kevin was eliminated in 18th place, a little shy of the money.

A few moments later, Franco Cupello moved all-in for his last 19K from middle position, and Ian Tang isolated from late position.

Franco: King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Ian: Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Board: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs 9 of Hearts

With Franco’s elimination in 17th place, Event 14 is now being played hand-for-hand. In the first hand on the bubble, Richard Edwin Mask doubled his 45K stack through Benny with Ace of Hearts Queen of Spades over Ace of Diamonds Jack of Spades in an all-in pre-flop situation.

Table 40 has seen the bulk of the action today, and with the elimination of both Brian and Ronald, the top 3 players by chip count are all on the same table. Currently both Ruben Perceval and Seth Davies are playing approximately 1.7M in chips while Scott McMorran is just a little behind them with 1.45M in chips.

Jason Lavallée remains the big stack on table 39, playing just over 1.1M at the moment.

Altman out 16th; Laplante out 15th

    Brian Altman

Brian Altman has been the first player eliminated on Day 4 of the WPT Canadian Spring Championship.

The chips were all-in preflop and we learned that Brian was playing the Ace of Spades King of Spades while Scott McMorran (to his immediate right) held Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts.

Brian hit a king on the flop of 4 of Clubs King of Clubs 10 of Spades to take the lead, but his advantage was erased on the Jack of Clubs turn, and the 7 of Clubs was no help on the river.

Scott has vaulted to among the chip leaders if not the outright chip lead.

Just a couple of hands later, Ronald Laplante was eliminated by Ruben Perceval. Ronald had doubled Josue earlier but had managed to regain most of those chips but was still one of the relative short stacks in the tournament when his elimination came.

    16th place: Brian Altman, $13,130
