In level 2 of the tournament there was an unusual incident that ended up in a player being disqualified from the tournament.
The player had a pre-purchased ticket, so his stack was on the table from the beginning of the tournament. The player arrived at the table late – early in level 2 – and moved the stack so that it was in front of him and closer to the rail, and then proceeded to fill out and sign the release form required of all players in this event.
Once he handed back the release form, the dealer mistook the player for a late registrant (not just a late arrival) and passed a new stack to him. The player didn’t say anything – rather, he attempted to make the error as “invisible” as possible, first by aligning the stacks so the dealer might not notice, and eventually by pulling 25K in chips off the table and putting them in his pocket.
The “missing” stack was noticed 30 minutes later (on the next dealer change), at which point the facts of the situation were established. Prior to being escorted from the room, the player in question produced the 25K in chips from his pockets.
All of the chips in question (including his live stack) have been removed from play.
