    Our champion is Brigitte Thomas

    2018/11/04 | 4:18 by Playground Poker

Event #5 in the the WPT Montreal $200 + $20 Ladies tournament has come to an end after 13 hours of play. 124 entries joined the tourney and of these, 15 players were paid. It took about 10 hours for the final 9 competitors to reach the final table, and another 3 hours before a champion was declared. It was a long day of poker, but one that (as usual in a tournament reserved for women) was full of high spirits and camaraderie between the players.

The conclusion of the tournament came after Jennifer Brooks – a former Playground event champion – left in 3rd place. Heads up play between Brigitte Thomas and Elizabeth Bennett-Martin ensued. The duel lasted about 40 minutes before the final hand was played.

Brigitte went all in preflop, and Elizabeth made the call. When Brigitte revealed her cards, she was holding King of Spades Queen of Diamonds. Elizabeth’s hand was King of Clubs 10 of Clubs – dominated! The flop came down 8 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds. The dealer flipped the turn 6 of Spades, and the river was dealt 6 of Clubs, Brigitte had outkicked Elizabeth on the pair of sixes on the board, and she was victorious.

For their efforts on the day, Elizabeth claimed $5,095 and Brigitte earned $5,580.

Congratulations to all of the 15 players who cashed in the event!

WPT Ladies Event Champion: Brigitte Thomas – $5,580

    Runner-up: Elizabeth Bennett-Martin – $5,095

We are down to the last two competitors at the final table after third place competitor, Jennifer Brooks, busted.  Preflop, Elizabeth Bennett-Martin raised to 125,000. Jennifer  pushed all of her 700,000 chips into the pot, and Brigitte Thomas called. Before Brigitte and Jennifer revealed their cards, Elizabeth folded. Jennifer showed King of Hearts 10 of Hearts, and Brigitte revealed 10 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds.

The flop came down Ace of Hearts 3 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds. Jennifer stood up as the dealer flipped the turn 4 of Diamonds. The river card was a Queen of Clubs, ending Jennifer’s run. Brigitte and Elizabeth congratulated Jennifer for her exceptional play, and Jennifer shook both their hands.

We are down to the final 7 players at the WPT event 5 after Brigitte Thomas busted Carla Sabini. Preflop, Brigitte pushed all her stack of 400,000 chips into the pot. Everyone else at the table folded, except Carla, who called with all of her 100,000 chips. When the players turned over their cards, Brigitte showed Ace of Clubs Ace of Spades. Carla revealed King of Spades Jack of Spades. When the flop came down 7 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 4 of Clubs, Carla received no help. The dealer flipped the turn Queen of Clubs, and Carla stood up.  On the river the 10 of Spades was dealt and that was it for Carla.

Today was an amazing day at Playground Poker Club, and after an exciting and action-packed Day 2, we are set up nicely for the final day of the WPTDeepStacks tournament, which occurs tomorrow, Sunday November 4th at 2pm.

We originally started out our WPTDeepStacks with five live Day 1’s events, resulting in 896 total entries. When the dust had settled on all the Day 1 events, 257 players had made it through to this morning’s Day 2. Now, after today’s ten 60-minute levels, we are down to our last 31.

Those lucky (and skilled) 31 will join us again tomorrow afternoon for the final push, all of them aiming to be the champion and to take down the $222,000 first prize and title of WPTDeepStacks Champion.

In the best position to do so will be our chip leader Mohammed Abdel-Rahim, who is at the top of the leaderboard with 2,270,000 chips. However, there are several players not too far behind, and the field is a strong one.

In any case, no matter how far the field has come, there remains a lot of poker left to be played between now and the finish line. See below for small gallery of those remaining players with the largest stacks, and good luck to all the participants tomorrow!
