Level 16 is a wrap, and the players have now started level 17.  During a 15 minute pause in the action, the chips were counted, and a new leader has emerged. Tracy Hutton has amassed 333,000 chips and is currently trailed by Helene Michaud, whose stack measured 286,000. The field has been reduced to three tables of 8 players, and after the next 9 players bust, the 15 who remain are guaranteed to cash out!

Tommy Nguyen just took a chunk of chips from Joey Weissman after flopping three-of-a-kind and improving to a flush. Tommy was holding King of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds on a King of Clubs 8 of Diamonds King of Hearts Queen of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds board and found a call on his 55,000 river bet in a pot that was close to 100,000 prior to the river action.

Tommy has now exceeded the 500,000 chip mark, and extended his lead as play nears the bubble.

The High Roller event was supposed to go on break until tomorrow, however players have agreed to continue the day until the payouts have been reached. Action will therefore continue until we see 4 more eliminations take place.

Tommy Nguyen continues to lead the field, having now crossed the 400,000 chip mark, while Pascal Lefrancois has climbed into second overall. Below are the top 4 counts in play heading into level 17.

After the devastating blow to his chip stack very early in the day, the odds were that Trevor Argue would be bowing out of the WPTDeepStacks tournament early. However, that was not the case!

Trevor has battled back after losing 90% of his 300,000 chips, and his success is due in part to the fact that he (allegedly) shoved all in up to 25 times today. While there is no way to verify the exact number, the odds are that it is true, given the fact that he shoved twice on the bubble, a time in which the vast majority of players opt to do nothing but fold until the danger passes.

There is no telling where Trevor will end up at the end of the day, but if he keeps up his solid play, he could very well go deep in this event. Either way, he’s in the money, and that is a win all in itself.

Heads up clash results in sighs of relief

Level 15 is grinding down to the end, and the average chip count is now up to 116,000. There are only 32 of the original 124 competitors who remain in the WPT event # 5. In a heads up clash that had the potential to knock another player out of the field, Tina S, and Elizabeth Bennett-Martin went toe to toe.

Preflop, Tina raised to 4,500, and Elizabeth called.

When the flop came down 8 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds, Tina wagered 6,500 before Elizabeth raised to 25,000. There was no hesitation on Tina’s part; she called. When the turn was revealed, Queen of Spades, Elizabeth pushed all of her 50,000 chips into the pot, leaving Tina with a tough decision. But after pondering for a moment, Tina counted out the chips, and shoved three quarters of her stack towards the dealer.

When the two players revealed their cards, Tina was holding Ace of Clubs 10 of Spades, and Elizabeth’s hand was a Ace of Spades 7 of Spades. When the river was dealt, a 9 of Hearts, both players sighed, and split the pot.
