Jasmine Laframboise, who placed 6th in the World Cup of Cards Women’s event last year here at Playground, has just won a big hand on table 97.  Preflop, Carrie Webster raised to 2,600 and Jasmine called. When the dealer revealed 6 of Spades 10 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds, Carrie bet 5,000, and Jasmine immediately called. When the turn was revealed King of Hearts, Carrie pushed harder, betting 10,000. But Jasmine quickly raised; Carrie debated, but eventually called.

Once the dealer revealed the river 4 of Spades, Jasmine revealed Jack of Hearts King of Diamonds and Carrie showed her 8 of Clubs 9 of Clubs.  The river hadn’t help Carrie make her straight, and Jasmine won the pot with a pair of kings.

As we near the bubble, players with smaller stacks are trying desperately to hang on to make the money. To have come this far and to miss out on the $2,700 prize (for those that finish between 105th – 111th) would be a shame.

Things have just become much more difficult for Vasco Morgado on table 22, as he was recently crippled by Jessie Wheatley in a hand, mere minutes before the cut-off.

Jessie opened with a raise of 12,500, which was called by Vasco and another player. The flop came down 7 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds 3 of Spades. Jessie and the other player checked, at which point Vasco bet 23,000. Jessie stayed, the other player didn’t.

The turn was a Queen of Spades, and two final players checked. Down came a 5 of Spades on the river, and Jessie raised 42,500 utg.  Vasco was happy to call with his 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades. He wasn’t so happy, however, when Jessie flipped over her Ace of Spades 8 of Spades for the nut flush.

As we write this, hand for hand has started, and there is only 15 minutes left before the 45-minute dinner break.

    Registration closes with 97 entries

The registration period for the High Roller is now closed, and the final tally is of 97 entries, of which 29 are re-entries. This number falls a touch shy of the $1,000,000 guarantee, and therefore players will enjoy a little bit of added value to their tournament buy-in.

Once the tournament staff has finalized the prize pool information and payout structure, we will publish it here on the blog.

Action has now resumed in level 13, with 36 players remaining.

The players at the WPTLadies have just returned from their break. During the pause in the action we counted the chips. It’s a close race at the top of the leader board. Julie Poliquin, who placed 24th at the Crazy $80 No Limit Hold’em in 2017 at Playground Poker, has 59,000 chips. She was followed closely behind by Longueuil, Quebec resident, Bigette Korak, whose stack measured 54,000 chips. There are several other players hovering around the 50,000 chip count, including Julianne Aram Papazian, from Cannes France.
