Chabra crowned the High Roller champion!

    2018/11/05 | 1:20 by Playground Poker

The WPT Montreal High Roller Event saw a total of 97 entries take place, of which the top 13 players were awarded a payout. The tournament was spread across 3 full days of poker, with the money-bubble bursting at the end of Day 2.

A number of poker phenomenons participated in this star-studded field, but in the end it was Ajay Chabra who was the last man standing. He and Tommy Nguyen duelled heads-up for the title, with Ajay starting with the slight chip advantage. Within a few hands Tommy took over the chip lead, and continued to slowly extend it through the first few orbits of play, until Ajay changed gears and chipped his way back to even stack.

Ajay then won a huge pot after flopping a straight and letting Tommy take over the betting. He got maximum value out of the hand, finding a full double-up on the river and leaving Tommy with less than 10% of the chips in play. Tommy went on a heater after and found 3 double-ups to regain the chip lead.

Heads-up play continued for the better part of 6 levels before the final hand took place. Ajay limped in with Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs from the small blind, and made the quick call once Tommy moved in with his Ace of Hearts Queen of Spades. Ajay flopped a set and held on to the river for the win, claiming the title of High Roller Champion, which was accompanied by a cool $270,000 prize along with a champion’s trophy.

    Congratulations!

High Roller Champion: Ajay Chabra – $270,000

    Runner-up: Tommy Nguyen – $182,500

After almost an hour of unremarkable play moving around the table and no major swings, Giancarlo Palleschi just went all in against Said El-Yousfi. Giancarlo was short-stacked at the table, and he got his chips in at the right time.

Giancarlo: King of Hearts King of Diamonds

Said: Ace of Hearts King of Spades

It was the second time in a row that Said went all in with an A-K. Unfortunately, the board came up 2 of Diamonds 4 of Spades 9 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds, and so it was the second time in a row that Said doubled up one of his opponents while holding Big Slick.

With the win, Giancarlo doubles up to over 4,000,000 chips, and the table shall remain 6-handed … for now!

Bichr Awad was crippled by a low stack and could barely keep up with the blinds. In the end, he went all in with 10 of Diamonds King of Clubs. Jean-Luc Dosormeaux called. Jean-Luc’s hand was Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds. When the flop came down 7 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds Bichr shook his head. The turn was flipped 5 of Diamonds. When the dealer dealt the river 4 of Hearts, Bichr’s fate was sealed. He cashed out in 9th place.
