Pierre-Paul Paulin is one of the most consistent big-tournament players in big events at Playground – he always makes Day 2 and seemingly also Day 3, he can always be found near the top of the leaderboard, and generally crushes in events here. Unfortunately for Pierre-Paul, however, he was eliminated today just one spot short of the Official 6-handed WPT final table.
The fateful hand started with an open to 125K from Sorel Mizzi, which was immediately met with a raise to 400K from Patrick Serda. Pierre-Paul, on the bb, shoved all in for 1,475,000 chips and action returned to Sorel, who folded. Patrick asked for a count, but had stabbed the table with a small stack of orange 100K chips before it was finished – call.

The flop was great for Pierre-Paul: – he took the lead, and Patrick’s many outs (any 8, running diamonds) must have seemed like a pretty remote possibility to Pierre-Paul. The made all of the diamonds as well as any 8 a live card – and lo and behold, a came on the river and if Pierre-Paul had sucked out by hitting the 6, Patrick had re-sucked by making the improbable flush.
