Jiachen Gong has been eliminated from the Main Event following an absolutely brutal hand in which preflop odds suggested he would become the overall chip leader in the tournament with 5 left. Instead, there are indeed 5 players left, but it was Jack that hit the rail.

The button was on Kauvsegan which meant Patrick Serda was utg, and he folded. Ema was next to act, and she raised to 200K. Jack flat called, and action was on Kauvsegan, who decided to raise all in for close to 2M. The blinds quickly folded and action was back on Ema – who re-shoved (she covered Jack by over 4M). Jack made the call.

Ema: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades
Jack: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs
Kauvsegan: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

At this point, Jack had 87% equity in the hand according to the on-screen graphics, and commentator Griffin Benger exclaimed, “Oh – this is a disaster for everyone but Jack!”

The flop was dealt: 3 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 8 of Spades – only the barest beginnings of a surprise was in store here.

The tension ramped up quickly, though, on the turn: 6 of Spades.

And the river sealed Jack’s fate: 10 of Spades. Kauvsegan had taken the main pot with the nut flush – but Ema took a side pot from Jack with her Queen of Spades and so he was eliminated in 6th place.

    6th place: Jiachen Gong, $175,500
