After nearly 2 hours of 4-handed play, Frédéric Normand took his last breath. He played a very solid game, but Lynn Phan got the best of him.

She has been limping a lot of her range, and Normand took a slow approach to the hand when he flopped trips, hoping to get maximum value in position. Phan, however, turned gin:

Phan: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Clubs 6 of Clubs 8 of Spades

Board: 4 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 4 of Clubs Jack of Hearts 9 of Hearts

Normand had called 100K on the flop, 225K on the turn, and the remainder of his stack, not very confident at that point but announcing that he couldn’t fold. When he saw Phan’s hand, he showed a 9 and a 4, for trips turned boat on the river.

Phan now has a commanding lead over this 3-way match.

    4th place: Frédéric Normand – $9,000

    Great game!

    Frédéric Normand
