Jiachen Gong has been eliminated from the Main Event following an absolutely brutal hand in which preflop odds suggested he would become the overall chip leader in the tournament with 5 left. Instead, there are indeed 5 players left, but it was Jack that hit the rail.

The button was on Kauvsegan which meant Patrick Serda was utg, and he folded. Ema was next to act, and she raised to 200K. Jack flat called, and action was on Kauvsegan, who decided to raise all in for close to 2M. The blinds quickly folded and action was back on Ema – who re-shoved (she covered Jack by over 4M). Jack made the call.

Ema: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades
Jack: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs
Kauvsegan: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

At this point, Jack had 87% equity in the hand according to the on-screen graphics, and commentator Griffin Benger exclaimed, “Oh – this is a disaster for everyone but Jack!”

The flop was dealt: 3 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 8 of Spades – only the barest beginnings of a surprise was in store here.

The tension ramped up quickly, though, on the turn: 6 of Spades.

And the river sealed Jack’s fate: 10 of Spades. Kauvsegan had taken the main pot with the nut flush – but Ema took a side pot from Jack with her Queen of Spades and so he was eliminated in 6th place.

    6th place: Jiachen Gong, $175,500

Kauvsegan Ehamparam has made the first double up of the final table, through Sorel Mizzi. He opened the action from the cutoff with a bet to 175,000, and after Upeshka De Silva folded, Sorel 3bet to 650,000. That was met with a 4bet shove from Kauvsegan and Sorel made the call.

Kauvsegan: Queen of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds
Sorel: 6 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds

The flop was just what Kauvsegan needed: 10 of Spades 8 of Spades 4 of Spades and the Ace of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds on the turn and river kept him in front. He increased his stack to over 3.9M in the hand, while Sorel wentdown to 2.160M.

    2018/11/04 | 12:08 by Playground Poker

The WPT Montreal will be crowning another Main Event Champion today, and 6 players return to the felts to determine who will walk away with the elusive title, taking home the $855,000 prize that comes along with the fame. The tournament champion will also have their name forever engraved on the WPT Champion’s Trophy, and will be awarded the stunning Champion’s Belt, unique to Playground Poker Club Main Events.

The field is still stacked with experienced players and should prove to be a very entertaining final table. Here is a little resume about our 6 finalists:

Seat 1: Upeshka De Silva (6,800,000 chips) – More commonly known as “Pesh”, Upeshka is a highly skilled tournament pro from Texas with over US$2,000,000 in live tournament earnings. With two WSOP bracelets and a WPTDeepStacks title, he is looking to add “WPT Champion” to his impressive resume. You can recognize him with his colourful attire, chilling stare-down and aggressive style of play.

Seat 2: Sorel Mizzi (3,870,000 chips) – Toronto poker pro Sorel has been on the live circuit for a dozen years now, and has accumulated almost US$12,000,000 in live cashes, in addition to a lot of online success. With wins in various events around the world, including some High Roller events, Sorel would love to add a WPT title to his belt. He already has 2 big cashes here at Playground Poker Club after winning the partypoker Premiere League VII back in 2013, and coming in third place in the High Roller of the Spring Classic last year, but a top 2 finish would surpass both those cashes.

Seat 3: Patrick Serda (8,260,000) – Playing under the alias “prepstyle71” online, Patrick has been dominating the online poker world for a few years now. He has been slowly transitioning to live poker and is looking for his first big live win after coming close in 2016, finishing runner-up in an EPT High Roller Event. He returns to the felts as the chip leader today, and has the experience and know-how to carry this lead into a victory.

Seat 4: Ema Zajmovic (7,450,000) –  local sensation Ema is on the hunt for her second WPT title on her home turf after emerging as the WPT Montreal champion back in 2017. This is her 3rd WPT Main Event final table in Montreal, and 4th overall after finishing runner-up in WPT Amsterdam earlier this year. She has proven to be a menace on the tables, and will be gunning for the win today.

Seat 5: Jiachen Gong (2,935,000) – Known as “Jack” here at Playground Poker Club, local cash game pro Jiachen is looking to double his tournament live earnings with a victory in this Main Event. His three tournament wins were all recorded here at Playground Poker Club, and he is therefore no stranger to final tabled on his home turf.

Seat 6: Kauvsegan Ehamparam (2,350,000) –  Kauvsegan could be considered the wild card on this final table. Surely the least experienced player remaining in the field, he has managed to navigate his way through a star-studded field to secure a spot on the final table and has proven he can play with the best. Apart from a runner-up finish in the MILLIONS Open event earlier this year, his recorded live cashes all sit in the 4-figures, and even a 6th place finish today would result in his biggest live cash to date.

Players are getting ready for action, and cards will be in the air momentarily. There will be a live stream with commentary available shortly – more information will be published soon.

Good luck to our 6 finalists!

    2018/11/03 | 15:35 by

Pierre-Paul Paulin is one of the most consistent big-tournament players in big events at Playground – he always makes Day 2 and seemingly also Day 3, he can always be found near the top of the leaderboard, and generally crushes in events here. Unfortunately for Pierre-Paul, however, he was eliminated today just one spot short of the Official 6-handed WPT final table.

The fateful hand started with an open to 125K from Sorel Mizzi, which was immediately met with a raise to 400K from Patrick Serda. Pierre-Paul, on the bb, shoved all in for 1,475,000 chips and action returned to Sorel, who folded. Patrick asked for a count, but had stabbed the table with a small stack of orange 100K chips before it was finished – call.

Pierre-Paul: Ace of Clubs 6 of Clubs
Patrick: Ace of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds

The flop was great for Pierre-Paul: 4 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds King of Spades – he took the lead, and Patrick’s many outs (any 8, running diamonds) must have seemed like a pretty remote possibility to Pierre-Paul. The Jack of Diamonds made all of the diamonds as well as any 8 a live card – and lo and behold, a 9 of Diamonds came on the river and if Pierre-Paul had sucked out by hitting the 6, Patrick had re-sucked by making the improbable flush.

    7th place: Pierre-Paul Paulin, $135,000
