After two 60-minute levels we have reached the first break in today’s WPT Main Event.

At 43,000, the average chip stack is barely higher than where it started (the starting stack was 40,000 chips). That said, there were a few players whose chip stacks were notable at the first break, even though it remains early in today’s flight. Congrats to the early leader, Timothy Ulmer!

Today is Day 1A of the WPT Montreal Main Event here at Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, just minutes from downtown Montreal. This is the 7th edition of the WPT Montreal, and the event is already shaping up to to be one of the marquee events of year!

This year, this WPT Main Tour stop has become a $5,000 + $300 NL Hold’em event with a huge $5,000,000 prize pool guarantee. It features three Live Day 1s – plus an online Day 1 which was held on Sunday October 28. Each Day 1 will play through 8 60-minute levels. This is a multiple entry tournament with one entry and one re-entry permitted per day per day, and late registration will be open for the entire length each Day 1. Players will also be permitted to enter (and re-enter) on Day 2 until the beginning of level 11.

Players who survive each Day 1 will qualify for Day 2 – and all players (qualified or not) may elect to play additional Day 1s to try to qualify again, or to try to qualify with a better stack.

Past champions in this event have been Maxime Heroux (2017), Mike Sexton (2016), Jared Mahoney (2015), Jonathan Jaffe (2014), Derrick Rosenbarger (2013), and Jonathan Roy (2012), and the event has also seen historic runs by players like Ema Zajmovic (final table 2016), Rainer Kempe (first big tournament score in North America), and Mukul Pahuja (back to back final tables), among others.

Cards are now in the air… good luck to everyone playing today!

Live flights in the WPT Montreal Main Event get underway today at 4:00pm, but there are already sone results of note in the event as the Online Day 1 was played on partypoker last night. There were only 14 entries in the online starting flight, but 8 of those players have qualified for Day 2 including chip leader Alexis Urli, who has accumulated over 148,000 in chips.

The full list of qualifiers is available via the WPT Montreal Main Event Day 1 Combined Results page.

Here’s an old photo of Alexis from a WPT we hosted a few years ago.
