Two full levels have been completed in Day 1 of the High Roller tournament, and with the players away from the tables, we searched for the big stacks to this point. We found 3 players who have managed to accumulate more than twice the starting stack. Clearly this is exceptionally early to be sweating the leaders – nevertheless, having chips is a distinct advantage at any stage in a tournament.

Play has just resumed in level 3.

Registration continues to climb slowly in the High Roller event, and there are still a considerable number of satellite seats that have been awarded but not yet played. Mohsin Charania, David Peters and Joseph Cheong are some of the most recent players to join the event.

Action on Day 1 of the High Roller has passed through 30 minutes and there are now 13 players at the tables – and at least that many people hovering around, contemplating a start a bit deeper into the tourney.

Here are a few photos of players that have taken their seats – and one who has already hit the rail (though probably temporarily, considering this is a re-entry event).

Event #4 in the WPT Montreal Festival is a $10,000 + $300 NL Hold’em Re-entry tournament with a $1,000,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool. Players will start with 30,000 tournament chips and play through 8 levels of 60 minutes each with 15 minute breaks following every second level. The break will be extended to a 45-minute dinner break following level 4 on Day 1 and level 12 on Day 2.

This is a multiple entry tournament with unlimited re-entries permitted throughout the late registration period. Registration will continue through all of Day 1 and on Day 2 as well. Registration closes in the event at the beginning of level 13 on Day 2.

Players are now taking their places at the tables, though with such generous late registration options, the tournament will likely start very small and grow throughout the day – particularly as players from the Main Event, which is now in the money, are eliminated and choose to join this tourney on the other side of the Tournament Hall.

Good luck to everyone – cards are in the air!
