    Prize pool and payout structure

    2018/11/03 | 20:37 by Playground Poker

The WPT Montreal High Roller event saw a total of 97 entries, of which 29 were re-entries. Since the $1,000,000 guarantee was not met, this would stand as the prize pool for the event, minus the 3% reserved for staff gratuities.

The payout structure includes prizes for the top 13 players, with the payouts listed in the table below.

    Rank | PosPrize | Bourse
    1st$270,000

Shankar Pillai just saw his High Roller event come to an end after getting in his remaining 50,000 chips pre-flop versus Tommy Nguyen.

Shankar was holding 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades and could not overcome the Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades of Tommy on a 5 of Hearts Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts Ace of Spades 6 of Spades board. Tommy chipped up to around 180,000 with that pot, putting him amongst the bigger stacks in the field.

In the last hand of level 13, Alex Foxen opened to 3,500 from middle position, and found calls from Louis Boutin and David Peters before Joseph Cheong squeezed all-in for 33,500 from the button. Alex mucked his hand, and Louis moved all-in. After a moment in the tank, David opted to make the call with his 16,500 stack.

Joseph: Ace of Spades Queen of Spades
Louis: 9 of Diamonds 9 of Spades
David: King of Hearts Jack of Hearts

David took the lead by pairing his King on the flop, and Joseph turned a ton of equity with straight and flush draws with an over-card, but Louis ended up scooping the pot by rivering a set on the King of Diamonds 3 of Spades 6 of Hearts 10 of Spades 9 of Hearts board to thin the field by 2. Louis climbed to around 140,000 after the hand, putting him well above the average stack.

Pegman Meleknia opened to 3,500 from middle position, and Pascal Lefrancois 3-bet to 10,500 next to act. Pegman completed the call once play folded back to him, and the flop was rolled out.

Both players checked on the 4 of Clubs 3 of Clubs 5 of Spades flop, and again on the 10 of Hearts turn. When the Ace of Clubs was drawn on the river, Pegman went in with a bet of 25,000, and Pascal moved into the tank. He looked over at Pegman’s remaining 93,000 chip stack, then looked up at the dealer and said “All-in”. Pegman waisted no time throwing in a calling chip and showdown took place.

Pascal tabled Queen of Clubs 9 of Clubs for a flush, besting his opponent’s 2 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds for a straight. He climbed up to around 280,000 chips with that hand, propelling him into second place for the time being, runner-up to Kristen Bicknell.

The registration period for the High Roller is now closed, and the final tally is of 97 entries, of which 29 are re-entries. This number falls a touch shy of the $1,000,000 guarantee, and therefore players will enjoy a little bit of added value to their tournament buy-in.

Once the tournament staff has finalized the prize pool information and payout structure, we will publish it here on the blog.

Action has now resumed in level 13, with 36 players remaining.
