Mehrabian takes down the $550 6-Max event

    2018/11/05 | 2:53 by

Sasan Mehrabian has emerged the winner of Event #7 in the WPT Montreal Festival. He had already locked up a prize of $13,360 when the deal was made, but there was still another $7,500 to play for – plus a great WPT event trophy!

Notwithstanding the deal that had been made, and the 5:1 chip advantage Sasan enjoyed, both players were working hard to secure the extra payout, and the heads up match between Sasan and Jean-Luc Desormeaux lasted for another 45 minutes.

Eventually, though, Sasan called from the sb and Jean-Luc checked his bb. The flop came Jack of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds. Jean-Luc was first to act and decided to shove. Sasan covered him by a lot at this point, but it’s never good to double up your opponent when playing hu, so it took him a while to make the call.

Jean-Luc: Ace of Clubs 2 of Hearts
Sasan: 9 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs

The turn was perfect for Sasan’s flush draw: Kd – he had made his flush and Jean-Luc’s Ace was no longer relevant. The river was the Queen of Clubs.

    6-Max Champion: Sasan Mehrabian, $21,860

    Last hand of play

    2nd place: Jean-Luc Desormeaux, $11,105

Two more eliminations; time for heads up action

    2018/11/05 | 1:40 by

Since Adam Volen was eliminated in 5th place, action continued at a quick clip and before too long both Rishi Makkar and long-time chip leader Nikola Isaev were eliminated.

Rishi open shoved preflop and Nikola called – Rishi’s stack had become quite small by that point.

Rishi: Ace of Diamonds 6 of Spades
Nikola: Ace of Hearts 9 of Clubs

The community cards: 5 of Spades Queen of Clubs 8 of Clubs 6 of Clubs 7 of Hearts – Nikola had made a straight and stacked the chips.

After a couple of reversals, however, it was Nikola’s turn to risk his tournament life, this time holding 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts. He raised preflop from utg and Sasan Mehrabian shoved over the top. Nikola made the call and was unsurprised to see Sasan’s Ace of Hearts King of Spades – it was a classic race.

Not for long, though – the flop came King of Hearts Ace of Diamonds 6 of Spades and though the Queen of Diamonds on the turn raised a slight bit of hope for Nikola – the 6 of Clubs removed all doubt and he passed the chips to Sasan, on his left.

Play is now heads up between Sasan and Jean-Luc Desormeaux, and Sasan starts with 5:1 chip advantage.

    3rd place: Nikola Isaev, $19,435

    4th place: Rishi Makkar, $9,725

Bichr Awad was crippled by a low stack and could barely keep up with the blinds. In the end, he went all in with 10 of Diamonds King of Clubs. Jean-Luc Dosormeaux called. Jean-Luc’s hand was Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds. When the flop came down 7 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 4 of Diamonds Bichr shook his head. The turn was flipped 5 of Diamonds. When the dealer dealt the river 4 of Hearts, Bichr’s fate was sealed. He cashed out in 9th place.
