    Event #4 champion: Robert Ouellette

    2018/03/26 - 5:45 by Shawn McCrory

Tonight’s edition of the 50/50 Bounty, Event #4 of the March Power Weekend, lived up to its billing and was a huge success. This tournament brought out 195 runners, building a prize pool that easily surpassed the $20,000 guarantee.

Tonight’s action went through two distinct phases; the first can be simply described as bounty hunting. In the early levels, the players were taking every opportunity to chase down their opponents and the all-ins provided more incentive to call than to fold, regardless of the hole cards involved. The second phase offered a stark contrast; it was all about laddering up. With 25 places paid, there was a huge gap between top and bottom of the prize list so throughout the final three tables the players tightened up and held on to every chip dearly in their efforts to get close to the big money.

Tonight’s champion, Robert Ouellette, went on a magical run this evening. His timing was exceptional, allowing him to get maximum value and multiple bounty chips on numerous occasions, giving him the chip lead most of the evening. After the final 6 players agreed to an ICM chop at the final table, Ouellette took the largest share of the prize pool and he soon found himself heads-up against Michael Fitzpatrick. They had a back-and-forth heads-up battle, but it didn’t take long for Ouellette to finally dispatch his last opponent.

Ouellette’s own words foreshadowed the end result: “It’s my night!”

    Event #4 Champion: Robert Ouellette – $3,900

The last six players in the 50/50 Bounty have agreed to an ICM chop of the remaining prize pool.

Robert Ouellette, who has maintained the chip lead for most of the tournament, will take home the largest share of $3,500.00. Michael Fitzpatrick, the second in chips, will take $2,400.00. Elliot Bloom, not far behind Fitzpatrick, will get $2,180.00.

Kamal Sadaka, Michael Mckinnon and Denis Leftakis earned themselves $1,670.00, $1,120.00 and $1,070.00 respectively.

There remains $400.00 in the prize pool for the eventual champion. Expect the chips to go in quickly now that most of the money has been awarded.

Beaulieu busts in ninth, Lapointe out in eighth, Haque finishes seventh

Robert Beaulieu just became Robert Ouellette’s latest victim. Ouellette made an opening raise to 100K from his button with Jack of Diamonds Jack of Spades before Beaulieu went all-in over the top with Ace of Hearts King of Clubs. Ouellette made the call and watched as the board ran out queen high to give Ouellette yet another bounty and pad his chip lead over the remaining players. Beaulieu will take home $460.00 for his ninth place finish.

Beaulieu’s elimination then opened the floodgates; Serge Lapointe was eliminated on the very next hand and Azizul Haque followed on the hand after that, both all-in before the flop and losing to a single caller. Lapointe will get $540.00 for his eighth place finish and Haque will pocket $620.00 for finishing seventh.

    Quinn out in tenth

Patrick Quinn waited patiently for pocket aces, but they meant the end of his run in the 50/50 Bounty.

Quinn had been card dead at the final table and was down to his last two big blinds when he finally woke up with aces in early position. He moved all-in, and the big blind, Elliot Bloom, made the easy call. Quinn showed his Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs and rolled over Queen of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds. The flop, Queen of Spades King of Clubs 3 of Spades, gave Bloom the lead. The turn and river, the Jack of Clubs and 3 of Spades, confirmed the situation on the flop, sending Quinn packing in tenth place and earning him $400.00

The 10 remaining players have agreed to discuss a potential chop of the remaining prize pool before a single hand was dealt at the final table.

As the players found their seats following the final table re-draw, one player proposed an even chop. The even chop was quickly rejected in favour of a potential ICM deal, and the tournament staff is now preparing the numbers for the players to consider.
