    Blouin-Verroeulst wins the Playground 200

    2019/02/24 - 19:13 by

Stephane Blouin-Verroeulst has won the Playground 200 in the February 2019 Playground Power Weekend, defeating David Bolduc Hamel in a tough heads up battle between two players that were clearly playing at the top of their game.

Stephane had started the heads up match with a slight lead, and this was maintained through the initial level of 2-way play until the break – he had about a 3:2 chip lead. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. However during the break, he seems to have found a new focus, and within 10 minutes of play (perhaps even a little less), Stephane was up to a 5:1 advantage and the writing was on the wall.

The final hand of the tournament came when Stephane called in the small blind, and then snapped off David’s shove from the bb.

Stephane: King of Hearts 4 of Diamonds
David: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs

Community cards: 9 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 7 of Spades King of Spades King of Clubs

Just like that, Stephane became the Playground 200 Champion!

In addition to their cash prizes, the top 3 players in the Playground 200 have each won a $1,655 seat in the next MILLIONS North America STEP 3 Satellite! The funds for these prizes was taken from the overall prize pool before the payouts were calculated.

Playground 200 Champion: Stephane Blouin-Verroeulst, $19,949 plus a MILLIONS STEP 3 satellite seat

2nd place: David Bolduc Hamel, $14,050 plus a MILLIONS STEP 3 satellite seat

Heads up in the Playground 200

    2019/02/24 - 18:19 by

Play is now heads up between David Bolduc Hamel and Stephane Blouin-Verroeulst.

Stoycheff makes it all the way to 3rd

    • Big Blind: 200K
    • BB Ante: 100K

Jean-François Stoycheff was playing injured – but playing well, and he was among the chip leaders and action-agitators all afternoon. He finally ran into a hand he couldn’t overcome, however, and he was eliminated in 3rd place tonight.

There was a little confusion off the top in his final hand. Jean-François meant to (and verbalized) that his preflop raise would be to 1M chips, but Stephane Blouin-Verroeulst misunderstood and said, “call” based on the supposed all-in, and tabled his hand. The mistake was caught quickly and Jean-François never saw the hand, and Stephane was committed to his spoken call – he put in his million chips.

The flop came 3 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 5 of Spades and Jean-François said, paraphrasing, “I didn’t see your cards, but whether I did or not, I’m all in” – Stephane made the call.

Jean-François: Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Stephane: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

The turn was nothing less than the worst-case scenario for Jean-François – 2 of Diamonds to give Stephane his gutshot draw. The 2 of Clubs on the river was but a formality.

    3rd place: Jean-François Stoycheff, $9,030 plus a MILLIONS STEP 3 satellite seat

Rho sent to the rail in 4th

    • Level: 31
    • Small Blind: 60K
    • Big Blind: 120K
    • BB Ante: 60K
    • Chip Average: 4.7M
    • Remaining: 3

David Bolduc Hamel raised from utg to 20,000 and got a fold from his neighbour Jean-François Stoycheff on the button, but Christian Rho in the sb 3bet all in (1.64M). Stephane, the bb, thought for about 30-40 seconds before folding, and action was back on David.

David went in the tank, constantly shuffling a small stack of red T5,000 chips, and he counted and re-counted his own stack… and he made the call.

David: King of Hearts Jack of Hearts
Christian: Ace of Diamonds 4 of Hearts

There was bad news for Christian right in the window: 6 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds King of Spades, meaning he’d need running cards or an Ace to re-take the lead. Neither was to occur: turn 7 of Spades, river 10 of Spades and that was it for Christian.

    4th place: Christian Rho, $6,400

    Play resumes in level 31

    • Level: 31
    • Small Blind: 60K
    • Big Blind: 120K
    • BB Ante: 60K
    • Chip Average: 3.5M
    • Remaining: 4
    • Entries: 566

Alexandre Mongrain was just eliminated in 5th place in the Playground 200 to bring the tournament to 4-handed play. Alexandre started the final table with a solid chip lead, but reversals and bad luck along the way laid his stack low…

On his final hand, he 3bet all in over Christian Rho’s open to 250K and got a snap call.

Christian: Ace of Hearts Jack of Spades
Alexandre: Queen of Hearts Jack of Clubs

Community cards: 5 of Diamonds 10 of Spades 5 of Clubs 9 of Spades 10 of Hearts and Christian took the pot with two pairs on board and the better kicker.

    5th place, Alexandre Mongrain, $4,910
