    Event #7 6-Max Re-entry Champion: Benjamin Mathieu-Comtois

    2019/03/25 - 21:00 by Bob T

It all started at noon today and by the time the late registration period was over, there were a total of 78 players (including 17 re-entries), which allowed the prize pool to swell to a total of $7,326. 10 players were to be paid today.

As the 6-max is an aggressive and fun format, the lead shifted from one player to another throughout the course of the day. When the tournament had funneled down to 7 players, the final table was formed.

Being the last day of the March Power Weekend, many of the Playground dealers who were not scheduled to work joined the action as they rarely get a chance to play.

The regular clientele however played a tough game and gave the dealers some fierce competition, doing everything possible to secure a win.

Mission accomplished as heads-up play was between former dealer André Dupuis and Playground regular customer Benjamin Mathieu-Comtois. Both players fought hard, but in the end, the deck didn’t cooperate with Dupuis and Benjamin kept chipping up.

On the last hand of play, André shoved with Queen of Hearts Jack of Spades and was called by Benjamin holding King of Clubs 7 of Clubs.

The board ended up Ace of Clubs 7 of Hearts 4 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds. Benjamin hit 2 pair and became the event champion!

    Event #7 Champion, Benjamin Mathieu-Comtois, $1,570 ($1,330 ICM chop + $240 1st place)

The 1st player to exit 4 handed play was Alexandre Cousineau. The next player to exit was Jean-Francois Santerre, who for part of the afternoon was the chip leader.

We will watch the heads-up action and report back once we have our Event #7 champion.

After the 5th place player left the table, the players decided to ask the tournament director to pause the clock so that they can find out what the ICM numbers for a chip chop looked like. After entering the numbers into the ICM calculator, the players agreed to make the deal.

As per Playground event policy, 2% of the total prize must be kept aside and players must play down to a winner. The players decided to leave a little more than 2% and they all contributed $60 each so that another $240 could be left over for the eventual 1st place winner, over and above the amounts listed in the table below.

Here are the numbers for the ICM chop:

Kyle Jacskon started the final table in 2nd place, but along the way, he lost a good portion of his stack when the poker gods weren’t so kind to him, and blinds were putting some pressure onto his stack.

He finally picked up a premium hand and put his chips in, and had a call from Andre who had picked up a pocket pair.

Kyle: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts
Andre: 9 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds

Board runout: 8 of Spades 4 of Hearts 7 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 2 of Clubs

With no help from the board, Kyle finished in 5th place ($680)

Play has been calm over the last few orbits and JF Santerre has gained some ground after having lost a portion of his stack.  Andre, with the largest stack in play, asked if the other players wanted to look at ICM chip chop numbers, but the other shorter stack said to just play on.

Andre Dupuis has been playing well and running good. His stack keeps increasing as he has knocked out a few players. He just knocked out Anthony Liakopoulos-Allyene in 7th place ($420).  Mike S. was the next to exit the tournament, finishing in 6th ($530).
