The field has finally surpassed the 100 player mark (with 66 players remaining) and 20 minutes are left in late registration!

The good news is with now over 230 players in the first three flights, the tournament has surpassed the $100,000 GTD prize pool, and, there is still the turbo flight (Day 1D) tomorrow at 12 noon! Day 2 will be tomorrow night at 7 PM and Day 3 will have our final table starting at 3 PM on Saturday.

Here are some more photos of players still fighting it out for a top spot:

With still almost 2 more hours of late registration to go, the tournament is now up to 91 entries (including 6 re-entries), with 77 players who are still fighting it out and hoping to bag.

There are a lot of above average stacks, but three players have now gone above the 100K mark, and one player, Joseph Abou Khalil, has  skyrocketed to 150,600.

With 70 players now in their seats, the word of the moment is “whoa”!  Tonight’s field is growing minute by minute, and, at this pace, there shall soon be 100+ players, and, the sky is the limit.

Here are a few shots of some of the players here in level 2:

PG500 Day 1C – Cards are in the air

    2019/03/21 - 19:21 by Bob T

Day 1C of the PG500 has just started, and with already 34 players in their seats, it looks like it will be the largest field of the three starting flights that have taken place so far.

The tournament has a great structure for the players, offering a true deepstack as players start with 50,000 chips, which is an effective 250 BB starting stack..  Blind levels are 30 minutes in length so players can take their time to find their spots and make their moves. There is a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, and based on the 2 previous flights, the prize pool may in fact well exceed this amount.

Late registration is open until 11:30, so there is still over 4 hours to get into the action. As a great added bonus, just in case the poker gods aren’t kind to you, there are unlimited re-entries until the end of late registration.

The last flight, Day 1D takes place tomorrow at 12 noon, and offers a turbo format. Day 2 will play tomorrow evening at 7 PM.

Event # 1 champion: Giovanni Petrella

    2019/03/20 - 19:56 by Bob T

The day started at 11 this morning in the 1st event of the March Power Weekend, a $100 + $10 freezeout, which attracted 60 players, allowing it to surpass the guaranteed prize pool of $5,000, generating a total of $5,820 to be paid to the top 8 finishers.

The final table saw the two who were the chip leaders all afternoon, Giovanni Petrella and Ron S., holding a substantial lead over the others. As expected, the short stacks shoved away and the field started to narrow down.

Ron S. went on a crazy roller coaster ride, seeing his stack drop to 8k, then go back up to almost 300k, before busting out in 4th place.

Dylan Thibault, a regular visitor from Ontario who likes to come play most of the Playground events, made a solid deep run, just as he often does, but ultimately busted out in 3rd place ($910).

As play went heads up between Petrella and Bombardier, both players kept shoving with random hands, until finally, Petrella got the best of Bombardier, and became the event #1 Champion.

On the final hand of play, Richard Bombardier shoved his suited gapped connectors, 7 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds, and was called light by Petrella holding 10 of Spades 6 of Diamonds.  Petrella announced “I’m not that strong”, but when he saw what he was up against, he then said “oh, I’m actually ahead”, and the dealer put out the board: Jack of Spades 6 of Clubs 3 of Hearts King of Diamonds 10 of Clubs.  Giovanni flopped a 6 but Richard gave him some sweat having flopped a gutty. With no help to Richard on the turn or river, that brought the tournament to a close, with Giovanni Petrella hitting two pair on the river and becoming the Event #1 $100 + $10 Champion.

Event #1 Champion: Giovanni Petrella $1,670

    Last Hand of Play:

    Runner-up: Richard Bombardier, $1,230
